I've been living with migraines almost 20 years (since I was 15)!

By slblack75 Friday, December 18, 2009

I started getting when I was 15 y/o.  I would only get them twice a year but severe enough to be hospitalized.  As I got older, the migraines became more frequent but require less hospitalization.  Now, at 34 (35 in Feb) they are coming on even more frequent and more severe.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

I'm glad you've found us, but sorry you have to be here. This site has lots of great information and support I hope you find helpful.

It may be time to seek the help of an expert now. You see, here's the thing - it's important to know that some neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Neurologists are fine doctors, but it is difficult for them to be experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions like MS, stroke, and epilepsy. A Migraine specialist is an expert in one area - ours - Migraines and headaches. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Anyone who has three or more Migraines a month needs to be talking with their doctor about prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.
