Burnsie- Mom of child with Migraine

By Burnsie Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Hello, I am the mother of 3 kids (8,6, & 4).  My oldest has been suffering Migraines since he was 5 years old.  Recently his Migraines have gotten much more frequent but, less severe.  If he takes Motrin right away it can stop a full blown attack.  The problem is you can't take Motrin 2-3 days a week.  He has missed school, sent home from school, missed hockey games and other activites.  We are in the process of getting help from Children's Hospital of PA and he goes on Thursday (3/13) for a MRI.  His pediatrician thinks it is all stress related and wants him to see a psychologist who can help him develp coping skills and stress management.   This site is great and I am really glad to have found you.  Everyone is so supportive!  I am also a migraine sufferer.  I started in middle school though not as young as my son.  My migraines can also be controled with Motrin (800 mg)

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Current thinking regarding Migraine is that it is a genetic neurologic disease, you may want to think about seeing a new doctor who is more current on Migraine disease and headache disorders. Migraine attacks are not "all in your head" as we both know!! Coping skills are necessary in dealing with a chronic illness, stress does not cause Migraine disease. Teri Robert did an excellent podcast: Is Stress a Migraine Trigger?

There are not a lot of pedicatric Migraine specialists, but we do have a few on our list of patient recommended doctors. You can click HERE for that list.
