Fever Few

By SimplyJessica Friday, September 28, 2007
I took fever few for a couple months. It's an herbal medicine used to treat migraines. It didn't help me but I have read about it helping people many times. I bought like 10 bottles of the stuff too and I don't even take it anymore. But it was worth a try.

Jessica,

Did you check with your doctor before trying the feverfew? Yes, it is quite helpful for some people, but like other supplements, including herbals, it is a drug. Unfortunately, things like feverfew don't have as much information provided when you buy them as when you pick up a prescription.

Two months isn't necessarily long enough to know if it's going to work. Such products can take up to three months to start working. Feverfew should not be taken if there's any chance of your being or becoming pregnant because it can cause miscarriage.

Good luck,

Yes I did check with my doctor. He said it would take about 2 months to see results. He told me not to take any blood thinners with the feverfew because it might cause some side effects if combined. So, I had to quit taking my fioricet while I was taking the feverfew, so 2 months was about all I could handle since I wasn't able to take anything to help my head and the feverfew wasn't helping me at all.

Glad you checked with your doctor. Sometimes, the information we see about the "natural" treatments makes them look very helpful and very harmless. I just wanted to be sure you're safe.

I'm so sorry the feverfew didn't help. Have you ever discussed Coenzyme Q10 with your doctor. Studies have been showing good results, and I know several people who are using it with good results (including myself). The usual recommendation is 300 mg per day and to use softgels because it's less effective if powdered to make tablets or capsules.
