Hello all - so nice to know I'm not alone.

By Sherri Tuesday, March 04, 2008

I've suffered from migraines since I was a child. Over the past 5 years the headaches have increased in frequency. As of the summer of last year I started enduring migraines that last weeks on end. I've been through the gamout of preventive medications and they are not working any longer. I've gone weeks without medication to prove they are not rebound headaches and let me tell you that really can be fun. I've done 3 rounds of IV DHE therapy. The first two times worked to break the headache. Then I would be headache free enough to return to work and lead some kind of a normal life, or I should say try to get back to a normal life only to have a headache return. This last time, started Feb 4, same round of stuff: meds, prednisone, then DHE. But 5 days of DHE and the headache hasn't broken. I find the headache is like a 3 then sometime during the day will slam me.

As you all know so much time spent dealing with severe migraine puts you in bed, you don't eat, sleep, exercise, anything right. So of course everything gets out of wack. Now my job is also a very real concern.I've tried to stay upbeat but the depression finally really got me this time. Just really hard, as you all know. I'm waiting for an appointment with John Hopkins in Baltimore. Curious if anyone has any experience with them?

I decided it was time to talk to people who could understand what I'm going through so I found this. And right now just reading some of these stories and knowing that others out there actually suffer for weeks as I do is almost comforting. I don't wish this disease on anyone in the world but to know I'm not alone is a blessing.

Thanks

HI Sherri,

I know how it feels to have a migraines go on and on. I just saw my neurologist yesterday after having a migraine for 4 days. The one I had at the beginning of Feb had lasted for 18 days and put me in the hospital or 3 days to get rid of it. I also understand the whole job concern thing. I am a flight nurse and worry about losing my job all the time. I wonder when my next absence will be my last. The support you get on this site is wonderful. As far as meds go I think I have lost track of how many I have been on and since I can not take DHE or any triptans I keep the doctors on their toes. I wish you all the best and that you stay pain free. Don't give up and trust me I know how hard that is.

Kathy
