Tired of all the meds........

By Snobrdgrl321 Wednesday, July 30, 2008

I am now on Toradol.

This is like the 20th medication I have tried for the migraines.

Its not working out too well. I've been on it for about 3 months.

I am so affraid to tell my Dr once again...not working Doc.

I know I shouldnt be affraid, but I am.

Anyone else tired of all the meds? They mess me, my mind & my body up bad.

I am just at my whitts end I guess.

How do you function?

My very first post on this site was on this subject. It sucks feeling like a slave to your medications - especially when they aren't even helping. I had a horrible time on topamax (made me feel insane and depressed). I got scared that I would never find anything that worked, or that if something did work it would come with horrible side effects. The whole process of switching meds is very frustrating and exhausting. Don't be discouraged. You will find something that works. I am having some success on amitriptyline, but the medications can't work if you aren't doing everything in your power to be healthy. I try my best to get 8 hours of sleep a night, and to stay away from fast food...eating plenty of fruits and veggies, and even taking some vitamins. It's really hard. I just want to be a normal 21 year old - but at some point I realized that migraines are a disease like diabetes - one that needs to be managed carefully. Good Luck!

I think we all understand what you are feeling right now.  I'm on preventive #3.  Topamaz made me looney, depakote gave me tummy aches, weight gain, and did nothing for my migraines.

Now I am taking Neurontin.  I started 100 mg in May, and now I am up to 300.  I can't say I'm having any negative side effects, but no positive ones yet either.....

It's exhausting because every time you try a new drug, you know you have at least 2 months (if not 3 or more) of still feeling like garbage before it might work.   Not to mention the "oh, dear, what will this one do to my body now?".....

It is discouraging and frustrating, BUT DON'T GIVE UP!  Each one of us has a preventive that will work, its just a question of finding it.

And don't ever be afraid to tell your doc a med isn't working.  1) it's not like it is your fault 2) if you feel like your doc is frustrated with you, and tired of hearing it, you should fire his sorry butt!

Good luck, and try to stay positive.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Now I am more scared after reading some other posts about being labled a "drug seeker."

I take these prevent meds that dont even work....get horrible migraines daily and the only thing to do it pop a narc (after I have taked a ton of 10mg. Toradol). to relieve the horrible pain. I am so sick of it. Then I have to go into the Doc and let him know that my 20 supply is gone in a month and a half. (And I dont even like the stuff...I try to only take half if possible)

Then I get the look........as he is sitting here with my file (file 3 of 3) that looks like some Stephen King size novel. Not to mention I have a tethered spinal cord, scolosis, leg, foot & knee deformity, which I am sure he NEVER remembers because he must see 100 bizzillion people a week. Ok, I'm done ranting...for now, sorry.

Why cant I just have a normal day?

i UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN BE AFRAID TO TELL THE DR THAT THIS IS NOT WORKING, SO MANY OF THEM JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND AND THEN THEY WANT YOU TO GO ELSEWHERE AND START ALL OVER AGAIN. MY WIFE SUFFERS REAL BAD ALSO AND SHE IS ALWAYS AFRAID TO TELL THE DR THAT SHE IS GETTING WORSE.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW YOU ALL HANDLE THIS!

Been there done that and doing it again.  Here take this one it will make you feel better, oh no lets try this one, or maybe that one.  The next thing you know your taking 20 some pills a day and still ending up in the er once again.  I like others here are going through the same things that you are and feel the same way.  You are not alone in this and I just figured that out myself.  I understand the fear of the docs and the shame they can put on you. Alls I can say is hang in there someday the docs will find what works for you at least that is what I keep telling myself.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there!  I have had the same problem with medications and tried about as many, if not more, than you have too.  It is so frustrating, but don't be afraid to tell your doctor - it's not your fault the meds aren't working!  I understand your frustration and sometimes it just helps to vent.   Stay strong, you can get through this and I am hopeful you will find a med that gives you relief soon.

I've tried them all and been messed up, too. Now I take Petadolex. It is a plant extract from the root of the butterbur plant. It has NO side effects and is all natural. You take it 3x day, it is a preventitive which takes about 30 days to kick in. It REALLY WORKS. You can order it online from The German comany that makes it at www.migraineaid.com or from Better Health International and get a better price in bulk. I buy 4 to 6 bottles at a time. It costs about $1 a day which is totally worth it! Good luck. Christine

P.S It was a Harvard trained neurologist who gave me my first bottle of Petadolex as a sample. It is used in Europe for many years. It stops the cerebral arteries from dilitating which, no matter what the trigger, is what causes migraine pain. I encourage everyone to try it. Christine

I also have been there and done it all.  I have had migraines for 19 years.  I just started seeing a chiropractor again 20 days ago, I am presently going to him for adjustments 2 days a week.  He recommended me taking Drenamin, 2 tablets twice a day.  It is all natural and supports the adrenal gland.  I have been taking the Drenamin for 14 days now.  I have not had to take any migraine meds for 6 days now.  Usually I take the migraine meds every day. I still feel like I am getting a headache, but it never comes on "full blown" to where I have to take the migraine meds.  I have high hopes at this point that I have FINALLY found something that will work for me.  Good luck to all of you!
