Headache Update

By shopgirl Thursday, January 21, 2010

Being at a higher dosage of topamax seems to be really helping with the migraines. When I have gotten them, the Imitrex has helped. So I'm really thankful for that.

After 3 1/2 weeks of physical therapy, I honestly don't feel like there's any difference in my neck and the daily headaches. I talked to my physical therapist about the technique she was using because I really didn't think it was working. She didn't seem to really listen to me and didn't seem to thrilled about changing her technique. So on Tuesday, I had a follow up appointment with my doctor about the physical therapy and I shared my concerns with him about it. He wants me to drop the physical therapy. I have an MRI of my neck and head tomorrow morning. As soon as he gets the results, he will call me. He then mentioned Botox injections. I'm not really sure how I feel about that since I really don't know all that much about Botox treatments. Does anyone know anything about Botox treatments? Has anyone tried it and had success with it? Once he has the results from my MRI, he'd call me and we'd talk more about it then.

Its been a while....

Hey there,

I haven't had Botox injections, but other members here have. We do have information on Botox you can read in this article/video report.

Botox for Migraine Prevention: A Video Report

You could go over to the forum and ask about Botox too.

Good luck

I've had migraines for 30 years.  Fun.  About a year ago I tried BOTOX with a coctail of other drugs as preventative treatments.  It works for me.  I still have headaches most of the time, but I do get a pain free day every week, some times more.

I droped Topamax 6 months ago because it took a huge toll on my cognative abilities.  Have you noticed that the right words don't come, and when they do, can you say them?

I've been on Topamax (300 MG) for approx. 4-5 years.  It worked for me in the beginning, but now all I am getting are the negative side effects--hair loss, memory loss, weight loss, lack of cognative thinking).  I am tapering off and considering going back on Depakote, which has worked for me in the past.

I have had Botox treatments, when I had insurance to cover them.  They are very painful to go through, but considering the pain of migraines, you can handle it.  They worked for me for the tension in the front of my head, but did not get rid of my migraines.  But I noticed sagging of my eyelids.  This happened because the neurologist is not a plastic surgeon and put too much in the area between my eyes.

I could care less what I looked like if I could get rid of my horrible migraines, but the sagging eyelids were a pain--and made me feel tired, since the forced my eyes closed.

Good luck!

I have lost about 20 pounds being on Topamax, but I'm overweight as it is. So the weight loss is nice bonus. :-) I have noticed from time to time that I have trouble saying the right words that I'm thinking, but at this point, it doesn't bother me because it only happens every once in a great while.

Thanks for telling me about your Botox treatments. It really helped alot!
