ER again

By ERFLTRN Thursday, March 06, 2008

Well I have been in the ER since 0300 this am with little relief and a lot of attitude. I even printed the form from this webiste and had my neurologist fill it out for me. Unfortunately still attitude. The docotor said "you were just here Sunday didn't you see your doctor or follow any of our directions?" Well of course I did and even had an occipital nerve block which apprarently did not last as long as I had hoped. The doctor informed me that since I am allergic to compazine, reglan, and depakote that he did not know what to do. I asked if he could do toradol IV because that sometimes works better than PO or IM. He agreed and gave me that with zofran and IV benadryl. Well after 30 mins I still had a 7/10 pain. He said well I guess since what you really wanted was narcotics we should have started with that first to save wasting my time. I was so upset and my husband told him exactly what he thought of my treatment. The gave me a full milligram of dilaudid which is 7.5 times stronger the morphine and when I told him I had never had that before he basically said he did not believe me. So I got the injection and immediately broke out in  rash. I was so upset and still in pain that I asked to just go home. So here I am in my darkened bedroom with relief from vomiting being my only saving grace right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am so physically and emotionally drained I just don't know what to do. My husband should receive some sort of award because no matter what he always takes care of me and never complains. I just am so overwhelmed and depressed today. Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry you've been through such a rough time. How are you feeling now? What role is your neurologist playing here?  A call to him/her would be in order to review your preventive plan, and see what can be done to break this Migraine. Please let me know what he says, ok?

Mrs. Bonk,

I am Kathy's husband and I was checking her E-Mail and seen your post.  She ha been in the hospital since Friday 7, March.  Her neuroligist put her in to break the Migraine, to no avail. It is Monday the 11th and still no relief.  I have spoken to the doctor and as she was lost for what to do next I suggested the IV Therapy, with a definite NO.  If she is still hospitalized tomorrow (Tuesday the 12th) she will be transfered to a VA Hospital 4 - 5 Hours away.  I have left a message for the Dr. Krusz and his appointment secretary to call me so I could see if it were possible to take her to Texas to get the treatment. Any suggestions??

Well I spent 8 days in the VA hospital in Gainesville. I have a new neurologist and a hopefully new plan. He kept me sedated for the first 5 days in the hospital as my pain was so severe I could not open my eyes without crying. I had all new tests to include an MRI,MRA with contrast. I am being weaned off Topomax because he does not feel it is doing me any good anymore and I have stopped Botox because the blood work came back showing I have indeed developed an antibody to it. At least with this doctor on the prevention side we are unsure of where to go next but I came home prepared for the next major migraine with pain, nausea and even antianxiety meds to help me sleep which we all know once it hits we don't sleep. Dealing with the VA can be a migraine in itself...thank God for my husband who spent the whole 8 days in the hospital with me making sure everything was taken care of. We are now fighting for my VA disability to be re evaluated because I was told I can not work as a flight nurse anymore and really need to rest. I should have taken at least 6 months off after my brain surgery last summer rather than just 8 weeks. So that has been my March. I surely hope everyone elses has gone better.

Take care all

Kathy
