So after a weekend of headaches, I took my 7 year old to the doctor yesterday. I am tired of these running his life, and our's, for that matter. They are coming so much more frequent and I am ready to move on to something better for him. So....He is in first grade, and gets eye "screenings" each year. As a mom who has worn glasses since I was 4, and my husband since grade school has also worn them, I have really paid attention to any signs that he may be having trouble seeing. Yesterday they said he was seeing 20/40 in one eye, and 20/100 in the other! WHAT! This could be a HUGE trigger for him. He has never shown any signs that I have seen of squinting to read, having a hard time making out things far away, nothing. So we go to the eye doctor on Friday. YEAH!! I got a refferal to the Opthamologist and the Pediatric Neurologist yesterday. The doctor does think his headaches sound like migraines, but she thinks it definately warrants a trip to the neurologist. I can't believe we have missed this eye thing. Never in school have they flagged his chart for the eye tests. I guess they are just not that great. Anyway, my point is...beware of trusting the "screenings" and just take them in to the eye doctor. I doubt that this will cure his pain, but maybe some of it. If we can get a handle on some of it for him, I will be happy. With the family history I have of migraines, myself included, I think the eyes are only part of the battle. I am anxious to see if it helps. And I am anxious for the neurology appt. to see what else we can do. Thanks for listening!!
