Relentless

By kja Wednesday, March 19, 2008
I have suffered with these migraines for 29 years now. Wow! The last 5 have become progressively worse. I have entered into the chronic almost daily headache phase. All the doctors do the same things and want to try the same drugs with little effectiveness. I feel like an Immitrex junky. Has anyone had any good results with Botox injections... how can I find someone who knows what they are doing??? My neurologist wants to try that next.Unsure
Dumb and dumber... side effect hell

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Daily Migraine pain is exhausting. Imitrex, a Migraine abortive, if taken on a daily basis, can create another problem called Medication Overuse Headache (fomerly called rebound.) This is really a problem when the very medication used to abort our head pain causes a new type. Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires discusses this in more detail.

Please don't despair though, there are over 100 preventives, plus complementary therapies to help manage Migraine disease. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

I had cosmetic botox around my eyes which helps me to be able to use a computer, usually about 4 months of help.  I have also had the "Myoblock" done by my neuro in Las Vegas which is a ton of Botox at the base of the spine.  I am now looking into a PFO closure which the insurance won't help with since I haven't had a stroke yet.  I have been diagnosed with "hemicrania" and just recently came off a 6 month, non stop migraine.  I got a lot of help from a book called "Heal your Headache".  With the dietary changes and acupuncture (and blocks, botox, nerve freezing) I was getting better.  The book does talk a lot about creating rebound pain when you are treating everyday.  I can't take triptiphans so my cocktail is 20 mg prednisone and ergotamine/caffergot.  I did six months of heavy indocin use to get the inflammation down and now only treat the bad ones.  Feel free to contact me if you want to compare notes.  Good luck, I hope you find some relief.

Thanks, I'll probably try whatever the neuro offers at this point. Every day is some sort of wierd pain and I try very hard not to always be taking something, thinking I need to avoid overusing immitrex or other meds. But this is very difficult. I keep hoping for a break and I am exhausted. Thanks
