After a long drive to th Bay Area and a BART ride in the am to San Francisco. I made it to see the headache specialist. Dr. Goldstein. The best part of the visit was making it there and feeling pretty good, especially after the previous ' Bad Week' The next best thing was actually having someone listen to me for an hour. The whole thing was a little strange. I don't think I really expected anything miraculous but I felt like at least I had a new direction to go and some hope. Somehow it was reassuring as well to hear someone say "you have a neurobiologic disease" so maybe I am not crazy with all these other migraine symptoms that seem to go along with the 'big headaches'
I left the office armed with a food and headache diary (homework) samples and a handful of new prescriptions. When I consider it all I am hopeful that I will have more good days ahead. I have already started a list of more questions for the doc? my next appt is a phone visit.

I felt the same way after seeing my headache specialist. I'm down to 1 migraine every week/week and a half, instead of almost every day. Isn't it wonderful to finally have a doctor who believes you and offers some hope? I see mine again next Monday. Congratulations and good luck!
kja,
Are you still seeing Dr. Goldstein? How's it going?

Hi
Thanks for asking. It is okay. I have had numerous "telephone visits" since I am 4 hours away. I have changed meds to Inderal LA and have numerous RXs to try to make it work. I can't say the attacks are improved yet , but I have more options to help manage the bad days. Wish I could say I was down to one or two a month but I am not there yet. Thankfully my primary MD talks with Dr. G and they both are really trying to help me controll this illusive disease. One day things will be hopefully much better. What about you?
I am about a 2-3 hour drive from him, and he's the closest I can find to a migraine specialist around Sacramento. I'm very limited in my funds for migraine care as a student, so I only want to go if I know it's going to be worth it. I've wasted a lot of money trying to find the right doctor, so thanks for letting me know your opinion of him! I might try him in a few months once I get the money.
