amitriptyline

By Nebula Monday, September 21, 2009

I've been on 150 mg of amitriptyline for a few years now and have had a lot of success with it. I tried weening myself down this summer and began getting headaches more frequently...

But I have really bad dry skin problems and constipation which I believe are from the medication. What are some similar medications in the same class of drugs that I could try instead?

Hi Nebula,

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with this medication. Have you spoken with your doctor about taper off this medication? That is really important to do.

This type of medication is a tricyclic antidepressant. Others in this class include: Asendin, Anafranil, Norpramin, Sinequan, Norfranil, Tofranil, Pamelor, Aventyl, Vivactil, and Surmontil.

Does that help?
