I have not had migraines for as long as you but I can understand having them everyday practically. Have you ever tried to cut out processed meats, aged cheeses and others that are listed on the migraine triggers list? I never thought that the foods that we eat could cause migraines, but it is definately possible. Its not alot of people with migraines that it effects, but its worth a shot. You can find a list thru the bars above. I have only been trying this for a couple months but I can tell if I eat a meat lovers pizza I am guaranteed to have a major migraine. Of course I still use Topamax, and Elavil as preventives, and still carry Maxalt just in case. My neuro said to try the diet for at least a month or two, other places I read three. I didnt notice anything the first few days but now I can tell a big difference. I am down to barely a headache at all, except if I eat something I know I shouldnt, but its always the good stuff.  Anyways Good Luck I haope this helps you. At least while you wait.

my wife suffers from migraines and has for the past 4 years.  When she was pregnant she got her first migraine.  We lost the baby @ 24 weeks.  The baby was born and lived for about an hour.  After that my wife's migraines got worse.  At one point during this 4 year stint she had to go to the ER 5 times in 1 week.  The ER will think you are drug seeker.  We went to the same ER to show them we were not ER Hopping.  The treated her like a drug attick but gave her the dlaudid and phenogran that got her out of pain every single time.  Then for years my wife would get a migraine once per week.  It seemed like the migraine would come back on the same day every week.  Every once in a while the migraine would go 8 days just to throw itself off weekly schedule.  I have been so ready to sue the hospital due to the way they treated my wife, but I never did since they kept treating her.  My wife has been to Holistic doctors, Michigan Headpain in Neuro Institue, Special Chiropractors, Pain Clinics, Neruologist, internal medicine, and OBGYN.  There is not a cure for migraines, but why do some migraine suffers pain just disappear one day?  THere are people out there that suffer with you everyday.  THe one thing that I found that I believe will help her is to read Luke 11:9-13 and then read Romans 8:26 in the New King James format.  You probably think I am crazy, but think about it.  How much do you think you have asked, searched, and knocked for help with your migraines?  For these scriptures to help, you must be a Christian and a member of the Lord's church.  Read those passages and give me your thoughts.

I can identify with the person who has suffered with migraines for over 7 years. I have tried all the different migraine medicines also without any success. My pain has always been severe but in the last 5 or 6 years they have gotten worse. I never have a headache for less than 3 days and sometimes they last as long as 8 days. During my headaches I have black spots before my eyes, nausea, vomiting, can't stand to be in the light, very sensitive to noise, easily irritated. It takes me completely out of my life. I stay away from everyone when I have a headache because I can't stand to be around anyone. I have to take shots for my migraines a combination of trimedol, phenegan, and nebain. I usually have to sleep off my migraines. Sometimes I only have to get one set of shots but sometimes I may have to go every day to get shots. The pain is so bad and it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I want more than relief, I want a cure. But my Nuro say that it is impossible to find a cure for migraines because people have different triggers and the same medicines don't work for everyone who has migraines. so please don't feel like you are alone because there are othere people who are suffering too. I have never had a problem getting my medicine from my doctor because he has known me for many years. However, once during the weekend I had to go to ugent care more than once and the nurse started asking questions that sounded like she was wondering if I had a drug problem. Which only irritated me more and made me really upset. It is bad enough that we have to suffer through these awful headaches without having to deal with people who make you feel even worse because you have no control over what is happening to you. Anyone who work in the medical profession need to be educated on the subject of migraines because it is a very serious disease.

I just cant get my doctor to give me anything for the pain and I have had shot after shot and yes they do start asking you questions making you feel like you are a drugy. I am changing doctor again in hopes of some relieve sometime soon and less trips to the hosiptal with me 3 kids.

I too have suffered migraines for about 25 yrs. I have tried everything under the sun. Different migraine medicines, chiropractor, neurologist, shots, hot steam showers, exercise, acupuncture, you name it I have tried it.  The only time I did not have any migraines for a month was on the Hallelujah diet. I do not work for them. (Hallelujah Acres) This is a strict vegetarian diet. If you follow it EXACTLY (no cheating), you will have results. But you must STAY on this diet. It is based on biblical prinicipals. If you read "Why Christians Get Sick" by Rev. George Malmus, it will possibly give you a new insight into why you get sick. This diet is not just for migraines. It was difficult for me to stick with because of other family members not wanting to join me in this diet. I do try to stick with this diet, but I still have breakthrough migraines and use Maxalt. I just wish I had other members of the family help with this. I only hope that maybe this will help someone else.

MAXALT seems to be working for a good amount of people but didn't help me and made my body hot and tingly all over. I am afraid a diet of that sort wouldn't do much good around here either. Sorry to hear about your battle. I just want my pain to go away. i wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemy but some of these doctors that won't help me take the pain away. I know they have never had one and I wish they knew what it was like.

God bless and best wish to you and good luck!

    Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Glad to see you here because you certainly are not alone. Many, many of us have tried so many drugs, been to so many doctors, tried so many different complementary therapies it would make your head spin!! It is good to vent  - now here is some information to help you on your path to feeling better!

Let me say, first, that with over 100 medications available to treat Migraine disease, it really is impossible to have tried them all. If we add up the different combinations of medications that can be put together, the number goes up dramatically. Continue reading this article for more information: Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up! When we start a new medication, it can take up to three months before we see a reduction in Migraine frequency and severity. If we don't give new medications enough time to work, we'll never know if that drug is a good or bad choice.

It may be time to see an expert  - a Migraine specialist. If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Depression and Migraines can be a co-morbid condition. This means they may happen at the same time, but are caused by one another. Antidepressants are often used as Migraine preventive drugs. Take a look at this article: Migraine and Depression - National Depression Screening Day,and  Depression in Women with Migraine Linked to Childhood Abuse.

i've had migraines most of my life. since i was 8 that i am sure of... we think since i was possibly younger ( no way to verify my dad and grandparents are deceased and my mom has a form of dementia induced by a massive stroke)

i have on a good week 3 to 5. on a bad week every day. i have now been in pain for over 2 months. we are sure i'm going to have to have sinus surgery, as i keep a sinus infection now. and the doctor thinks that it may be making my migraines worse. the bulk of my pain is in front or on the top of my head. but my truly bad ones is in the back of my head.

i currently take 400mg of topamax  and 100 mg of amatriptyline to prevent them. i also take a decongestant daily. and i am on several pain meds. the only thing that helps the pain at home is the stadol masal spray. but i can only get 3 bottles every 4 months, so i use it only when the pain is so bad i can't stand it. if that doesn't help i'm off to the doctor or the ER.

i have ben treated like a drug seeker by the ER. i have even thrown up on the doctor there, but he still had the nerve to tell the nurse that i was faking it ( yeah it pis*ed the nurse off as her daughter suffers from migraines as well) all because i dared to tell the nurse as she checked me in that i was sorry about her dad ( who died in a car accident the week before)

i have a very good PCP and a really nice neurologist. my PCP is determined to find some way to help me. and the neuro is sending me on to the headache clinic as soon as i can get an appointment.

in the mean time they are looking to my sinus as part of the problem. i am ready and willing to have the surgery if they think it might help. at this point in time if it won't kill me i will try it.

i know it's hard but keep your chin up. there is help. fire your doctor and find another one if you must.
