HelpTheKids - I saw that amitriptylene worked for you, but the weight gain was unacceptable.  I had a similar experience.  After 40 lbs. and increasing asthma attacks, I went off it.  My doc was unhappy, but put me on protriptylene.  I lost all the weight and it helped with my neck and head pain.  I no longer take it do to the really horrific side effects:  bad breath, dry mouth (leading to cavities), really strong, unpleasant smelling urine, no dreams to name a few, however, no weight gain with the pain management goal.  Maybe your side effects would be less intense.
