I'm excited about the prospect of something new.

I am/have been living with migraine for 14 years. My migraines have never been too terrible until now. I am excited about the preventive that my doctor has prescribed to me, and I am excited to be able to make some friends who can understand my and share with me their experiences.

The drug that I have been taking as a rescue med is Relpax, and yesterday I was prescribed Topamax. My doctor was so happy that he was going to start me on it. He had been recommending it, and because I don't like to take daily meds I put it off until it was ABSOLUTELY necessary. So now it is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I have been reading a lot about side effects and how the drug treats people differently. I just hope that the side effects are worth the cause.

Ok. That's going to be all from me for know.

Hey, good luck with the Topamax.  My Dr. tried me on it and it worked for a while but every few months he had to keep upping the dose to keep the headaches under control and I was worried about taking so much and weaned myself off.  Guess I wasn't one of the lucky ones with the Topamax, but a friend of mine says it's been great for her.  On the plus side, I did lose about 20 pounds in the eight months I was taking it!

Your doctor has taken a great step for you working to control your migraines.  Under the manage drop drop down above you will find additional information on other medications that if are also used in the treatment of migraine disease.  There are many options if Topamax does not work.  Each person reacts differently to medicaitons and it may work extremetly well for you and I hope it does!!  But don't let you doctor stop if it doesn't, there are more options.

Also under Manage you'll see the option for "Migraine Forums", while you need to register separately, come on over and join us.  It's a great opporutunity to ask questions and find support for an often misunderstood disease that we have.
