-from Susan Barron, NHF Support Group and Membership Services Coordinator   Working for the National Headache Foundation (NHF), I frequently hear from headache and migraine sufferers that they lack adequate support. This is not to say that their families and close friends aren't there for them...

Love you Susan!  Susan and the NHF found an amazing e-mail pen-pal (Dana) for me years ago, and we've been in touch ever since.  And we also share photos and keep in touch through myspace and facebook :)

If you're a member of MyMigraineConnection but feel shy or don't feel comfortable sharing your story publicly finding an e-mail pen-pal can be the perfect way to get the support you deserve.

My husband has had daily migraine or headaches for 6 years his pain level is at 7-10 daily with out much help with pain meds or other remedies we have tried so many things and no one can diagnosis where the pain stems from...his pain is almost always behind his left eye

Monday at 7:30 am he is having an ocipital nerve stimulator installed...all we can do is pray it works to help ease his pain.

Has anyone out there had success with this procedure?

    Please give me some feedback

    Kathy

Hi Kathy--realizing that this reply falls well after the occiptal nerve stimulation (ONS) implantation date--I am curious about your husband's response to this. I suspect you both had done a great deal of reading, but for those of you who aren't familiar with this approach, according to the American Academy of Neurology's meeting in 2006 the following statement was presented by the reserach physicicians from the Mayo Clinic in Arizona who had completed clinical studies indicating that:

"ONS as a safe, effective treatment for chronic headache."

ONS treatment involves implanting a neurostimulator under the skin at the base of the head. The neurostimulator delivers electrical impulses near the occipital nerves via insulated lead wires tunneled under the skin.

Please let me know how things are going for him. Thanks, Susan, NHF

Kathy, i myself have recieved an ONS and it has made a tremendous diffrence in my qualitly of life. Much like your husband i suffered the same jkind of pain daily. Since mine was turned on my life has gotten so much better. I am curious if you husband has had a similar responce to his. I know this is a year latter from your post, coincidentally mine was turned on around the same time as your post. Hope things are well.
