Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Yes, it's very easy to feel as if you've tried every preventive out there, but with over 100 medications in use for Migraine prevention and virtually endless combinations, it's literally impossible to have tried them all. Take a look at Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up! for more information.

Having the right diagnosis and preventive medication plan is very important. This may mean seeing a Migraine specialist rather than a neurologist. I'm sure your neurologist is a fine doctor, but it's difficult for him to be an expert in any one area because he treats so many different conditions like MS, epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson's. A Migraine/headache specialist treats one area - our Migraines and headaches. You can find our directory of patient recommended specialists HERE. And take a look at this article to see why it's important to see a specialist - Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?

Narcotic pain medication taken for Migraine prevention only masks the problem and can actually create a few other headache problems. Medication overuse, Transformed Migraine and there is a concern about using opioids over an extended period of time. Extended use can change the pain receptors in the brain, changes that can be permanent. Medication Overuse Headache - When The Remedy Backfires  and Transformed Migraine - Risk Increased by Some Medications are important articles to read.

I am a 73 yr. old woman who has suffered with migraines for 49 yrs. I have tried every preventive out there under the supervision of my neurologist. I also have glaucoma and many preventives cause the eye pressure to soar and that is not good for the eye. At the present we are only trying to deal with the pain and I also take percocet and demerol w/phenagan. As of the past few months I am not getting them every wk. and can deal w/the pain on my own. I only hope that others will finally get some relief, because just getting up every day w/a headache can be exhausting and depressing.

Hi there,

It may feel like you have tried all the medications out there available for Migraine prevention, but with over 100  available, that really isn't possible! If you add up the different combinations the number goes up dramatically. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Good luck

I'm sorry to hear that. I have had migrains since I'v been about 6 years old. I am able to deal with the pain since the medication that my Dr. put me on, oxycodine and methadone because they seem to work for me the best. I get them to the point to were i'm in be all day and  not able to a thing. I don't even eat when that happens, due to the nausea. I am for the more or less able to fuction on a regular basis.

I have tryed all the medstha are out there but only a few most of them made me more sick or didn't do a thing for me. so thats  why im on the neds that im on now.

good luck and take care of your self.
