Why?

Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:44 PMCindy,
Do you know what triggers your Migraines? Your doctors should have talked to you about this by now. Trigger identification and management is a vital component of managing Migraine disease. One of the best tools for identifying triggers is a good Migraine diary. You can download a free diary workbook from our article Your Migraine and Headache Diary. Some of us have food triggers; some of us don't. It's advisable to determine if your daughter does, and an elimination diet is the best way to do that. For more information and a workbook on this, see Managing Migraine - Migraine Trigger Foods.
Daily Migraines? How many days a week do you take something to relieve those Migraines? If you're taking Migraine abortive meds such as triptans or any kind of pain med more than two days a week, a big part of your problem may well be medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this. If you're in an MOH situation, nothing you take is going work, neither prescription nor "natural" medications nor over-the-counter. If that's the case, you need to work with your doctor to stop the medications causing the problem.
You said you've been to a Migraine specialist. Unfortunately, some of us have seen doctors who called themselves specialists, but they knew very little about Migraine. If you'se seen a specialist, how long did you see that specialist?
It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
Good luck,
Teri

daily migraines

Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 02:30 PMI too suffer from daily migraines. I don't know why I get them. I am the only one in the family with them (lucky me). I feel your pain. How did the migraines cause a growth in your neck? Don't give up. I know things get rough at times and sometimes down right depressing but hang in there. You can talk to me. I just found this site and find myself checking my email 3 or 4 times a day. I don't know why we have to go through so much pain but I'm sure we will find out and be blessed. take care.

Friday, May 22, 2009 at 10:00 PMI don't know why I have got the growth in my neck, but the dr says it most liklybecause of such long times with the headaches that we all get. I was told that the growth is making my headaches worse. I have had them for a long time, My mother, sister, great aunt, my grandma on my mother side. I have been going down a dark path with migrains for so many years that it's just part of my make-up now because all the Dr.'s I have seen have nothing to offer me to make them go away.

Almost Daily MIgraines and Daily Chronic Headaches

Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 09:05 AMI also suffer from migraine headaches and also something called hemicrania continua which is just a daily chronic heachace on the top of my head. I also have facial neuralgia thrown in there. I too have developed a soft lump at the bottom of my neck going onto my shoulder but my pc advised me it was a strained muscle. My neurologist said nothing about at all even though I pointed it out. Did any of your doctors say what the lump was? I am returning to my pc for another look at it. I take topomax for the migraines and it doesn't seem to help. I take Indocin for the hemicrania continua and it does seem to help but I am in pain at least 5 days out of 7. I am getting depressed as this has been going on forever. I had to retire from my job as I am unable to be in air conditioned air as it brings on a headache on the top of my head (hemicrania continua). Heat, on the other hand brings on a migraine. I always have some pain in my head.

Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 09:32 PMCindy,
I have only been given a narcotic prescription once as a rescue drug so I would not have to go to the emergency room if my triptan did not work and that was two years ago. I have seen at least 6 neurologists, a pain management clinic and the Jefferson Headache Clinic where I paid $1000 out of pocket for botox injections which did not help at all. I have been to maxil facial surgeons (pain in my face) dentists (for pain in my teeth) and acupuncturist - all to no avail. I know all of my trigger foods and do not eat any of them. I know that the weather is a catalyst and I have no control over that. I am 56 and I have had migraines since my 20's but developed the hemicrania continua after a car accident in 2001. I am fortunate to have found the neurologist who diagnosed that because he tells me that it is rare. I am glad that you have found some relief from this awful pain.

Hi Cindy,
Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease currently thought to be caused by overactive neurons in our brain and genetics.
Anyone who has three or more Migraines a month needs to be talking with their doctor about prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.
