My dog gets better treatment at the Vets office

By Jennifer Saturday, September 15, 2007

long story short, i've had migraines all my life, been on preventative since i was 17 im now 34. i've seen dr. wilson at tampa general for 10 years.

i switched pcp since i moved. i went to see them and they said i had to have notes sent from my neuro in order for them to give me a referral to my neuro. i had an appointment set for mon for a nerve block.  it took me 3 months to get this appoint. my neuro said i have tried just about all the preventative (which i don't think i have) and this was the next step. the notes were sent and the person in the office who writes referrals determines i don't need a neuro! not the dr. but the office person! so i get a call from my neuro on fri (when i had a killer migraine) that they cancelled the appointmt since i can't get a referral. so i left a message for my pcp to call me back. she never did. now i need to find a new pcp.

and somehow get another appointmnt at my neuro for the nerve block.

it takes 6 months to get a regular appointment with my neuro. the nurses there call me back 40% of the time. i told the dr. about that and she said, yeah we hear that a lot. dr. wilson is supposed to be one of the best dr.s for migraines. if you get to see her for an average of 4 minutes she has great things to say but once you leave there there is little to no communication on getting anything done.

im just so frustrated with dr.s.

also, when i visited my pcp i asked for something to help me sleep since i get migraines in the middle of the night and now im terrified to sleep. she said no, check with a psych dr. what?

i get minimal time with my dr.s on visits. they don't return calls and communication with their staff is terrible.

my Vet calls me back when there is a problem with my dog. i can get an appointment within days. she even follows up to make sure everything is ok. my dog gets better treatment than i do. i wish i was my dog.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm glad you got an appt with new PCP.  Hopefully he/she is a good one who will work with you and also help you find a good neuro doc.  If you can find any doctor's that specialize in treating migraines in your area, that may be helpful.  I have not had a lot of luck with neurologists.  I have been seeing a doctor from the Diamond Headache Clinic and they never make you feel like you are a drug seeker or making things up, which I'm sure you  have experienced.  Let me know how it goes.  You have a lucky dog!!   I think my dog, Katrina has a better life too sometimes.  Not a care in the world.  Do you think they get headaches?  Good Luck Roll Eyes

i actually see a neuro that is supposed to be "one of the best" around! she is wonderful but it takes 6 months for appointments once you are a patient. no one answers the phone when you call, you have to leave a message. the staff only calls you back 40% of the time. never the dr. how in the world is a person with migraines only having contact with their dr. in 6 month increments going to have a successful treatment outcome?

i dont think my dog Gus gets migraines. he is so happy go lucky. if he does i'll sneak him some imitrex lol! im kidding of course. he sure does brighten my day though.
