Life and migraines any advice pls!

By melanietorrey Monday, May 26, 2008

Migraines are becoming more frequent and severe.  Have appt next week w/local university hospital pain management center.  Hope this can help.  My husband's job keeps away from home 5 days/week.  My son is 4 1/2 years old and has recently been diagnosed w/autism and other neurological disorders.  DH is taking a new job that will have him away from home basically June - August.  Totally freaking out trying to find a nanny.  I'm in school and working and trying to be Super Mom.  I am from New Zealand - where percocet rx are given as needed and phenergan can be bought OTC. Triptans, Imitrex etc do not work at all.  Doctors here make me feel like some kind of junkie when I ask for an Rx for pain.  Sorry for the vent - thanks for reading.  Melanie

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

I'm sorry to hear about your son's recent diagnosis. It may be a long road for you and your family. There is no reason to apologize for venting. People often find SharePosting about Migraine disease, a genetic neurologic disorder, quite helpful.

We have lots of information on the site you may want to look at to get ready for your appointment. Having more than 3 or 4 Migraine attacks a month may mean it's time to be on prevention medication, not just rescue or abortives, like fioricet and Imitrex. There are many options and this article will help you. Feel free to bring it to the doctor with you. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!  Another issue may be taking certain OTC and prescription medications more than 2-3 days a week. This can create a headache called Medication Overuse Headache and no Migraine prevention drug on earth will work if we have MOH.
