helpthehead

By smilysuz Sunday, December 02, 2007
My thoughts are not very positive at this point, I try to be positive most of the time but I just finished a trial of hormone treatment to see if it woud help and I was waco on it and sooooo happy to be back off of them.  I have had headaches my entire life, a very timid child, so i always thought they were tension headaches, I am 47 years old and in the last 3 years have been working with a Nueoroligest that specializes in headaches, and they are definitly migrane headaches always on one side and sometimes will get some relif from a tripton, I have a headache on a daily basis but do not know when it will turn into a full blown migrange because I don't experience the aura some people do.  I am currently taking Topamax, Wellbutrin and Effexor to see if this will work - the best results I have had were from Botox injections but of course my Insurance will not pay for this, they say it is in testing or whatever - which is bull to me.  I am self employed so it is very expensive to pay out of pocut- I have traveld to South Dakota for the best Chiropractors in the world, I have tried accupunctor, I have tried a mixture of medications and my Nuerologist just doesn't have anything left for me to do, I know the are doing reseach on migranes, I hope they find one for me soon!!! also I miss alot of work because of being bed ridden.  Sorry about my spelling.

You are the mirror image of me. I'm 47. I've had daily headaches since I was a child, which if triggored by smells or foods or heat or to much exorcise turn into migraines. Over the years they have become Transformed Migraines from taking to much medication which I took because I had to work. I don't work now and can afford not to take as much, but they still are bad sometimes. I now suffer from RLS, Restless Leg Syndrome, and that is absolutely maddening.  My Neurologist put me on Topomax 3 weeks ago and the RLS has gotten so much worse. I am so sleep deprived that I'm having suicidal thoughts.  Being a Migraineur, that's not new, but recently, the thoughts are banging loudly in my head. I'm calling my neurologist tomorrow.  So, I'm writing to let you know that I understand how you must have felt about being on the hormone therapy and feeling waco!  I'm glad you are off of it too!

Don't give up!!!, there have been many times I have had thoughts of suicide myself, but I know that is the selfish way out!! I hold on knowing that there is still hope and research is stronger than it ever has been before - thanks for the reply and good luck

Migraine is a genetic neurological disease which flares up when we experience our triggers and creates a Migraine attack. Only 20-25% of Migraineurs experience aura; Migraine with aura - The Basics. Migraine without aura is more typical; Migraine without Aura The Basics

Trigger identification and management is an important in Migraine disease. Click HERE for more information. Have you every kept a Migraine Diary? This is a great tool for you and your doctor.

One of the best things you can do is see a Migraine specialist. These doctors are experts in Migraine disease and headache disorders. A neurologist may be a fine doctor, treats so many different conditions it is difficult for them to be experts in one field. We have a Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists Directory that may be useful.
