Can a Chiropractor help?

By ilovebands Thursday, April 17, 2008

My son is 15 and has had chronic migraines for the past 5 years.  He has been under the care of a pediatric neurologist and is currently taking 750mg of Depakote for prevention therapy.  Although it has shown improvement as far as the "severity" of his migraines go, they are still as consistent and he has a migraine one-two days ever week.  Someone recommended that I take him to a chiropractor and I would love to hear from someone who has some advice/experience?  Thanks!

Good to hear your son is feeling better. There a many complementary therapies Migraineurs use. Some Migraine specialists do not recommend chiropractic manipulation for the neck, lower back ok.

Biofeedback, massage, PT, acupressure are a few options your son can try. You can find more information on complementary therpies HERE. This information is on another HealthCentral site, Chronic Pain.

How many Migraine's is your son still getting?  If he is getting more than 4 a month he may need to see a Migraine specialist, an expert in Migraine disease and headache disorders.  You can find our patient recommended list HERE.

Good luck and I hope your son continues to improve.
