Vertigo. Could it be migraines?

By Safari Saturday, May 26, 2007
I have problems with Vertigo. Inner ears have been tested and arefine. Specialist suspects Silent Migraines or Seizures. I'mnot having headaches. I experience sudden onsets (with nowarning) of spinning and vomitting with prolonged dizzinessafterwards. I'm dizzy most of the time. I've always beenvery sensitive to light, sound and smell. Otherwise I don't seemto fit the "migraine" category. Any advice or experience to sharewould be greatly appreciated!

Please help.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Thank you for creating a SharePost. SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.

Something to consider and bring to your doctors attention would be Acephalgic or Silent Migraine. The term "Acephalgic Migraine" or "silent Migraine" refers to any type of Migraine where no headache is present, but the migraineur still has the other symptoms.

Hi Safari,

I have had symptoms similar to yours for 12 years now.  I have a low level dizziness all the time that is very easily flared when I come into contact with certain odors including cut grass, flowers, weeds, housedust, perfumes, dogs.....  When I come in contact with these things, there is an immediate severe dizziness and fatigue that can last the rest of the day. I have seen an ENT have been told I do not have an inner ear problem. The neurologist has said that I have symptoms similar to acephalgic migraines, but he does not think I fit that diagnois completely. He thinks I have a 'central neverous system" problem, but he is unable to pin point what it is.  The only way I can control my dizziness and avoid major flare ups is to be hyper vigilant all day, every day in order to avoid the ordors that flare me up.  This has really been life altering and discouraging. My ability to spell, do math, and even my langage skills are much decreased do to the dizziness. I know my comment is of no real use to you.....just wanted you to know that there is someone else who shares your problem with dizziness. I will welcome and comments you may have for me. Best wishes.  blueskies

I too have Vertigo.  It started out of the blue last summer so I have had it now over a year.  I have been to a few doctors and gone through all the tests, blood test, hearing and balance testing, eye exams, MRI, CT scans.  Everything is coming back "normal".  There aren't any answers.  I do get frequent headaches and was referred to a neurologist.  She is having me start a migraine preventative medication.  Hopefully it will  help.  Good luck to you...I know first hand how difficult this is to live with.
