daylight savings time and the dentist

The past two weeks have been particularly bad, head-wise. My pain has been above a 5 almost every day, and the vertigo and nausea have returned with a vengeance. For the most part, I haven't been able to pin down any real reason or pattern to it. That is, except for the first three days of this week. I can now add a new trigger to my list: the dentist. Okay, that isn't entirely fair. It's not really *the dentist* that...

putting one foot in front of the other

Today was a whirlwind of a busy day at work, which was good in that I got a lot of work done. I even left a bit early to go to a good friend's gathering downtown for her last day at work. (I'm sad to see her go, especially because she's one of the few friends I have who can empathize with Migraine disease because she has quite a number of invisible health issues herself, but I don't think we'll lose touch.) Unfortunately the...

keeping the romance alive in the face of the beast

Next week is Valentine's Day, followed closely by Presidents' weekend. DBF and I have planned a short little vacation for next weekend, since we both have Presidents' Day off from work. Next weekend falls conveniently between Valentine's Day and our two-year anniversary, so we decided to take a little vacation even though my migraines are still so out of control. Last year, when my health was somewhat better, we took a trip...

feeling cranky

I've been in a bit of a funk the past few days, so I decided it was time to get some of it off my chest. I'm still (mostly) keeping to my diet: no wheat/gluten, dairy, MSG, caffeine, alcohol, artificial sweetners; minimize sugar, salt. The most recent change was the wheat/gluten, dairy and sugar. I haven't noticed a difference with my head since doing that, so I think I can rule them out as triggers. My digestion, however, is...

weird week

This past week has been very strange. Last weekend, I had back-to-back bad migraines, with pain topping out at a 7 both days. Then I had five low-pain days, with the pain a 5 or less every day. (5 doesn't sound like low pain, I know, but I consider pain background noise until it gets above a 5.) Each day, I was only at a 2-3 until late afternoon/early evening, and even then it wasn't that bad. This week was also weird, because...

balance and the migraine lifestyle

This weekend was a back-to-back migraine weekend. I had severe migraines both days. Saturday's got better after some Imitrex + ibuprofen and a nap. Sunday's I just had to sweat through as I was at my triptan limit for the week. I iced my head and it kicked the migraine down enough to be tolerable. I hate spending the entire weekend on the couch. Saturday I did manage to walk down the street to the library to pick up a few books....

today's accomplishments

After last night's acupuncture appointment, when my acupuncturist followed up the "how are you feeling?" with "have you talked to your neurologist yet about stopping your medications?", I decided I had had it. She is a great doctor, but we disagree on the value of medications. She doesn't like them, and thinks they do more harm than good. I know how they have given me my life back in the past, and know I can find that...

Sunday thoughts.

It's been about two weeks now that I've been following my new food plan (no wheat, dairy or sugar). This is in addition to the other diet modifications I've already made: no MSG; limited salt; organic meat and veggies only; limit processed foods. My head doesn't seem to be much better, but my stomach certainly is. I cheated a little on Friday and had a delicious chocolate chip cookie straight from the oven. My migraine that day...
