Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 12:35 PMHi,
I was on Topamax for the prevention, I was in 3 weeks of killing pain after several days and a visit to urgent care, I had to takethe imitrex every 24 hours to keep me alive. Its the only time I have taken so much.
The ER is what I had to do to break the pain and then heavy pain meds.
Then I put a stop to the Topamax and after a few days the migraine did not return.
The prozac and diet is now what I have to do. If I have trouble will get back on a beta blocker. I have had the migraine attacks for over 30 years since very young.
I had every kind of test and tons of doctors. Every few years I need to switch out what has been working when the migraine cycle gets out of control.
Somehow the Topamax was creating such a killer pain nothing was working.
It also caused extreme anxiety and a raise in blood pressure. I gave it my best shot but am done with Topamax.
I have used imitrex for the onset for almost 15 years and now it is working again just fine.......amazing. I use it as little as possible under my doctors advice and am fully aware of the horrible downward spiral of over use of medication. I feel so much better now on the prozac without the anxiety of an attack. Now I can work on prevention again, the whole mind body connection.
Thank you so much.
Back from the brink.

Are you taking Imitrex every day? Any preventive medication you take will not work if you have Medication Overuse Headace, I'm sorry to say. It is like a double edge sword, we want the pain to stop, but if we take certain OTC and prescriptions more than 2-3 days a week we run the risk of MOH.
We have information on that HERE.
I hope you feel better.
