I had an awful experience at an ER this past weekend.  Have you ever heard of treating a migraine by treating the nausea first?  I was given two different typed of anti nausea and had a really bad reaction to the drugs which then then had to give me a two more drugs to sedate me. The 2...

    Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

That combination of medications is used to treat Migraines in some hospitals.  I'm sorry you had a bad experience,  but has your pain gone away? That really is important, because any Migraine pain lasting longer than 72 without a four-hour, pain-free break while awake may be a condition called Status Migrainous and needs medical attention. For more informaion, continue reading Status Migrainous - The Basics.

The staff was ignorant of migraine pain.  If you relieve the pain you won't be nauseated.  I know...I am a migraine sufferer and a nurse.

I am so sorry that you went through that experience. I hope you are feeling better. I too had the same medications given to me and I had allergic reactions to both of them. The last time I went to the ER, they gave me Compazine (anti-nausea medication) to help get rid of my headache. It worked for the most part and now my doctor has me take it first to see if I can get rid of my headache. It doesn't work 99% of the time for the headache, but it helps when I do take it with my migraine medicine and have nausea. I hope this helps.

    Take care,

    Holly

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
