Ha, I killed the migraine

By Myth1977 Thursday, October 25, 2007

Well this four day migraine has been killer, given I ran out of meds on day one, the herbal abortive did nothing, and tyanol/advil combo did not cut it either.  However to get more of my pain med I have to squeeze into the doctor sometime soon.  And I had no desire to go to the ER again, trying to reserve that for the most extreme cases.  So I used an old imtrex shot, it was still good, except I was taken off it because of angina and shortness of breath.  In other words is aggravates my asthma and causes chest pains.  I tried it anyway and it worked so wonderfully.  Within half an hour completely migraine free, with just a slight persistent aura.  I was not concerned over the initial symptoms of the Imitrex, as they usually go away quickly, however I did have to use my inhaler shortly after and then later on I was getting the angina pain again.  So I killed the migraine, but clearly Imitrex still off the list.  However, it will not stop me from bringing it to work with me tommorow, having nothing else at this moment.  Besides there will be plenty of people around if I faint otr keel over... so risk/benifit anyalysis tells me worth taking it, when I have nothing else, not likely a good idea too often.

I wonder what it is about the Imitrex, which worked fine without these effects, prior to my asthma developing.  And actually if took me a few weeks to recover from using imitrex three times a week, I was still getting angina and breathing problems which tells me it had more of an effect than just the med itself, but how it affected the asthma.

I also wonder if all abortives are also not allowed, because no one has suggested I go back on another one, but I don't know why.  If it was simply adverse reactions, then another one would not likely have that affect.  An abortive is so important to migraine treatment, I would really like to go back on one, as long as it does not induce asthma symptoms... because asthma symptoms cause more migraines.
