Hello, I picked up my prescription today and the pharmacist asked if my doctor knows that I am taking imitrex along with Lexapro.  She says they interact.  My doctor does know because she prescribed it.  Is there any harm in taking an antidepressant and triptans??  I assume that I am not the only one taking them.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

antidepressants and triptans and do not have a problem with Serotonin Syndrome. Teri Robert wrote a very informative SharePost you can find HERE.

I took Effexor (antidepressant) for about 7 to 8 years with triptans and didn't have any problem. Now I have been on Cymbalta for at least 2 years and still have no problems with my triptans. Maybe some people are sensitve to them and your pharmacist had to mention it to you? When I googled "antidpressents and triptans" this came up http://headaches.about.com/b/2006/07/19/fda-advisory-use-of-triptans-and-antidepressants.htm

I would read the article the other woman suggested as well. I am going to in a second. I think one thing to keep in mind is that us migrainers seem to be at risk for just about everything because of our medications as well as other medical conditions. C'est la vie! :o)

I take those together.  They now have to give you the warning, but I do OK on them.  I would suggest however, making sure you drink lots of water when you take the Imitrex.

I hope you feel better soon..
