Praying About New Doc

By hurting1 Monday, May 03, 2010

I awoke early, at 4:00am, to the normal slow grind of a headache, but I took my medication and I'm feeling much better. I am holding to the hope that today may have a positive end, as I am seeing a new physician this morning. I am just so tired of the headaches! I am nervous, though, because I feel like I will have to convince the new physician that my pain in real. It is well documented in my medical history, but I still feel like I must try to prove that information is correct. I don't need another doctor to tell me that he/she can't help me. I am just hoping for the best, but expecting the worst, as I usually do when meeting a new physician. I try to make sure the doctor does understand that I don't expect a cure, (but that would be nice) and that I just want to be able to manage as best as I possibly can until a cure is found. I have to hold on to the hope, that through continued research, a cure will be found one day. So, I'm off to the new physician at 9:30, and if he doesn't want to work with me, I have kept the appointment with the other doc. I wish all of you a wonderful, pain-free day.

I hope your doctors visit went well today.

Just a comment about the word "cure." Migraine is a genetic neurological disease caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics. Making lifestyle changes, trigger identification and management, a good preventive regime and have abortives and rescues on hand may be a better way to cope with a chronic illness, rather than waiting for the "cure."  Of course, that is just my two cents!!

I appreciate your comment, but I still hold to the hope, that through research, a cure may be found for some types, someday. I know that's probably not going to happen during my life, but it may in another generation. I know they are not going to find a "cure" for the two aneurysms that have invaded my brain, but I can still hope they may, for future generations sake. I know how important management is, and I try what I can, but I can't take many of the meds currently available due to the effects on blood pressure, or the way my body reacts.

I wonder if anyone has tried the light filtering glasses when suffering this horrid disease? I have to wear them due to a seizure disorder, but if those folks w/migraines seem to have that trigger, it may be worth a try. I can't go outside even on a cloudy day w/out my glasses, but even then it is only for a short time. There was some research that looked promising about the  use of polarized lenses for seizure disorder, but the eye doc I saw said he had never heard of the reasearch study, and he really doubted it would help. I asked him if he had headaches or seizures, and he told me no, but he had gone to school to do this job. I asked him to just look at the research that was available, but he refused! I tried to tell him how badly we suffer when we have a headache, migraine, seizure, etc, but he was still unwilling to even take a look. I left that particular office, but I did see another eye doc, and he hadn't heard of it either, but he got on his computer with me in his office, and went over the study. I am now waiting on the new glasses to come in. He said it may be promising for my headaches, too. Just the fact that he went over the study, and was willing to give anythng a try to reduce the seizure activity and possibly the headaches, was a breath of fresh air. The glasses are not the same that are available at the store, and they do have to be prescribed, but it would be worth it if they help. I can't remember the research site, but I can ask my doc, and I'm sure he'll have it. I do know the only place we were able to order them from was Oakley, but we were able to get them. I know it will help with my computer work, but there is some cautionary information about driving after dark. That really doesn't apply to me, as I am restricted from driving after dark anyway.

Good for you for finding a doctor who is willing to work with you as a partner in your health care. When you come across that study, I'd be very interested in reading it. Here is some information on sunglass(not quite the same thing) you may be interested in; Good Sunglasses - Vital for Migraine and Eye Health.

Good luck

Thank you, Nancy. I will find the study and reply witht the link. It was a study that included neuro's from around the world. If I am unable to find it, I will call my eye doc to get the correct information. I also read the link you provided, and I appreciate the infomation.
