Hello Terri,
Thanks for the reply. I can't even imagine 800 mg. of Topamax, I was on 200mg. at my highest dose and could not function! I am hoping a lower dose this time does the trick. My migraine went away now, so yesterday was great! I tried to squeeze as much as I could do into one day because I never know what tomorrow will bring. I feel bad you cannot get relief from triptans. At least Zomig works for me most of the time. It only has been the last year it has failed. It makes me panic because if my doctor is not in, urgent care or the emergency ward is awful. I have only done that 3 times in 12 years and I felt like a drug addict. I can't figure that out, 2 times they just gave me a shot of imitrex so it is not even a narcotic. I hope your doctor can find a preventative for you to help the pain. You must be a strong person to have suffered 14 years with out some sort of an abortive med. Hang in there. The days like yesterday make life worth living and give me hope to keep on trucking!
Happy Easter!!
I am so glad that you finally got over that bad one. I know what you mean by going into the er and hoping that your Dr. is in. I go through the same thing. If MY Dr is not in I have to go through alot like being a drug user and the whole thing, well if they only had migraines like WE do then they would know what we go through. I had my monthly Dr appointments so I can at least get injections during the week if I need them without seeing him, (I just call the clinic that he is at and he oks a injection and I go to the clinic in my town and the nurse sets it up and I inject it my self!) It saves alot more money if I give my self my own injection. Any way at my Dr appt. we decided to switch from demerol to morphine because of the long term affects of demoral (parkinsens (sp) disesiese (sp) toridal and whatever for nausea. Anyway thats what going on here I hope things keep going well for you. Good luck and Blessings, Terri
I have been on inderal la 60 mg for about 8 years and tell you what, it decreased my migranes by 80%. Only bad thing is when I get one, look out BP goes all over the place and I am instanly transformed into a zombie with half a head. When I get a migrane, its usually accompanied by some redicilous bp's like 200/117. then straight to ER I bobble.
A day later, I am like whoooo dont miss any doses of inderal and definitly have back up instant release available. ( LA is long acting I take once a day, I also keep a stock of 40 instant, but I break them in 1/2. I take 1 half every thirty minutes til migrane breaks, if it doesnt work by the third, off to ER>
Hello Kam,
Wow, I have never tried inderal, if it reduces your migraines by 80% that is terrific! I need to try something different I think. The topamax makes me feel aweful, and every time I try to increase my dose, my legs hurt so bad I cannot stand it. I have my next neuro appointment the beginning of June. I also made an appointment with a GP since my doctor moved about 2 years ago. She was great. She felt my migraines needed a better control plan which I agree. I am still getting at least 8 or so even on topamax a month. Last weekend I had a bad one again.
I threw up all day. I finally got zomig to stay down and it did help. I want to get off this roller coaster ride now! Thanks for your suggestion, I will check into inderal.
Trish
Day 5 and still in pain? Not good sweetie. When we have Migraine pain lasting longer than 72 hours without a four-hour, pain-free break while awake, may be a condition called Status Migrainous and needs medical attention. This can put us at an increased risk of stroke.
Please call your doctor for some help.
Status Migrainous
Hello Nancy,
Thank you for the concern. I am doing okay. My zomig of yesterday took my migraine down to about a level 4. Last night I got some much needed sleep and did not wake up at 4:oo am. The last six months my zomig has not been able to abort menstrual migraines. I used to only get a migraine 3 days prior and 3 days after my period with a few in between but the last few months it has been one long week of a continuous migraine. I am trying topamax again so I hope it helps! I am 49 & my neurologist says that migraines decrease after menopause, I hope so! My mom was 59 and my sister is still waiting at 58. Only 10 more years
They were not migraine sufferers though. I have only gone into urgent-care for a shot or iv 3 times in 12 years. That is usually when I am overwhelmed by throwing-up. I was in denial for many years that this was a REAL medical condition. I am soooooo glad I found your website! Everyone is great! It is soooooo helpful to be able to read about others who suffer with the same condition and know it is NOT just in my head! I appreciate your shareposts!
Trish
Glad to hear it Trish.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Our 13 year old "shared" his flu with us. He was home from school all last week with some awful virus or flu thing he just needed to share. I got it on Wed. I think, my husband got it on Sat. and we are just waiting for our 18 year old to get it.
I haven't been around and trying to catch up is no going as well as I'd hoped!
Take care
Nancy
Hi Nancy,
Isn't sharing fun?
My hubby had the flu about a month ago. Fever, chills and a bad cough that lingers forever. Luckily, my boys 15, and 19, have not gotten it yet. I hope it passes the rest of you by too! To be ill with a migraine is the pits! Happy Spring!
