ANOTHER MIGRAINE

Well, I woke up at about 2:00 a.m. with a migraine. I took a Zomig and now at 11:00 it is returning. I am so tired of this. The sides of my neck feel swollen and my throat is tight. Each time I take Zomig I wonder if I will stroke out. The Topamax side effects are not fun either, I am beginning to think it is not worth it. There must be a different med. for me. I am so tired, after 13 years of all this I want it to stop. My husband does not help me or understand at all. I try to do it all. I can't anymore. Time for a visit to my Dr. I think if I had a rescue med. it would help me to cope better. Well off to try Motrin.

Have you tried depakote for preventive? My son who is 15 tried topamax and it had horrible side effects but he is now on depakote and so far, no side effects. It has helped with the severity of the migraines but not the frequency - he still has them 1-2 times a week but they now last for hours opposed to days. It might be worth a try, but of course everyone is different so unfortunately you may have to keep trying different drugs until you find the one that works for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have not tried depakote. I have tried many others. I tried Topamax for a short time a few years ago but did not like the side effects. My Dr. thought it would be worth another try for me if I can give it more time, but I don't know. I will ask in May about depakote. Your poor son. I cannot imagine suffering with migraines as a child or teenager. I did not have one until I was 36 now I am almost 50. It would be hard as a mom to see him in pain. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my sharepost I appreciate it!

It sounds like the swelling in your neck could be a side effect to the Zomig. I cannot take triptans. My throat got tight, and my chest, and it felt like I had to take deep breaths. Like there was pressure on my chest. I also was on the Topomax for over 2 months, and was feeling very very weird. So........now I take Midrin. That's been the best for me. It works sometimes. It usually will take the edge off. (the pounding), but then I may have to take another. I wish you had more support from the boyfriend. I do have that, so I'm lucky there. But......I had to stop working, and it's strapped us fianancially. It's just not fair, and only us who suffer with these "know" what it is like. I wish you lots of luck.

Hi Denise,

Thanks for the information. I have not tried Midrin, I am still on Topamax but because of leg cramps I reduced my dose until I see my GP. The sides of my neck hurt and swell before I take Zomig. I get that almost everytime I have a migraine. I can relate to the chest pain though. Zomig as well as any triptan gives me a heart attack feeling. I have been married for 27 years and a migraine sufferer for 13. My husband does not have a clue as to how much it hurts, as I have always kept on going and not asked for help. This website really has helped me to get through. It is great to see that I am not a crazy woman, with "it's all in your head" attidude around me! I do have a good friend who suffers from migraines which helps also. We talk frequently, and cook supper for each other when we have a really bad time. I am lucky! I will ask about Midrin next time I go in.

I'm so glad to hear you have a close friend. That really helps,huh? Well, it's hard to make others see the pain. They have no clue!! I would definitely give Midrin a try. Take it as soon as you feel one coming on. It may help some. There's no sure thing. I have started a new product called, "LIMU", it's actually just a "good food." I'll let ya know how it works for me.
