Feeling As If There Is No Hope.

By CrystalDawn Monday, October 22, 2007

I had another migraine yesterday (4th time this month - last one lasted almost a week). This was an extremely painful one - I rated it a 8 out of 10 and I can really handle alot of pain. My fiance and I were in the middle of registering for our wedding gifts when the pain started. Like always, I tried to ignore it and not let on that I was feeling terrible - I hate ruining our days with a migraine. By the time we were leaving, my migraine was kicking into high gear, so I took my Maxxalt, which of course didn't do any good and by the time we got home (an hour later) my migraine was getting worse and worse, so I did what the doctor said and took another. And of course this didn't work, agian. So a few hours later I ended up taking Excedrin Migraine and dealt with the migraine all night long.

This morning as I was getting out of my bed, still feeling terrible, my fiance asked me how my head was doing and I told him it was still hurting. He told me to call my doctor and make them do something about it because he wanted us to enjoy our life together.  This completely broke my heart.. I feel so terrible when we are out and we have to drop everything because I am having a migraine. I feel like I am at the end of my rope at times.. like there is nothing left for me to do.

I am relieved and happy!

CrystalDawn,

Hello there! I signed on to do a journal entry this morning and I read your shareposts. I know exactly how you feel!

You have to remember that it is not your fault, if we could do something about it we absolutley would.

My husband and I have been married for 7 years, and all 7 years I have had migraines. There are times that he still gets frustrated, but I have learned that his frustration is because he feels like he can do nothing to help me through it.

Please do not give up and remember that you are not alone!!

Thanks Patty! I know what you mean.. I know that he just really hates to see me in pain and gets upset that I can't find a doctor to help me. I just wish there was a way to get rid of these migraines!! There has to be some kind of cure out there!!

I called my doctor's office this morning to make a follow up appointment and they are telling me that they can't get me in until December 2nd!! I am finally fed up with my doctor and the office that I called a Migraine Clinic here in St Louis and now waiting on a call back from the intake nurse. I am hoping they may be able to help me out more than my doctor has..

CrystalDawn,

I hope your migraine clinic helps.  I have seen the same neurologists for over 3 years. At first I was very successfully treated with imitrex, but because of the frequency of my migraines the effectiveness of it wore off. So now I am starting over looking for new medication that will work, it seems like I am on the phone with my doctors nurse every other day! Good Luck from Texas!!

Hey Crystal!

I forget - are you on a preventative now? If not can you see if your doctor can maybe start you on something till your headache clinic and see if that helps at all?

I hope you are feeling better! I am going through the exact same thing my dear. Going to see a headache specialist this week! My husband tries to understand but sometimes it's hard.

Good luck! I hope you get some relief today.

Hi Eileen! Thanks for the support. Yes, I've been on many different meds. Currently on Depakote for preventative and Maxxalt MLT when a migraine comes on (which isn't helping at all.

Have you tried (or can you take?) other triptans? Frova, Axert, Imitrex, Zomig......

I found Zomig wasn't doing so well for me - so I tried Frova - it is so much better! Definatly worth a shot right?

Have any abortives ever worked for you?

Hope you are getting through the day! Big Smile

Other than Maxxalt, which I'm using now, I've tried both Frova and Imitrex and neither worked... Havnt' found one yet that has worked for me. I usually end up resorting to Excedrin or hunting down a hardcore pain killer in the house. I really hate taking all the Excedrin I do thought because I know it is terrible on my liver, not to mention I usually end up getting rebounds from it, which I'm having at the moment, but when you're in that much pain you don't think about the rebounds, you think about what you can do to ease the pain at that moment before you just kill yourself (no pun intended).

Have you ever had a lumbar puncture? It could have to do with your spinal fluid....maybe that is why abortives and also preventives don't seem to work for you right now....check out this article Teri wrote - I'm talking with my new headache specialist about this very thing Thursday!

http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/c/123/5846/diagnose-cerebri/1/  at least that may answer some questions for you.

No I've never had one, in fact I've never heard of it until now. Thank you for the info.. The article was VERY interesting...

Crystaldawn,

I know you've been together for 7 yrs and had migraine the whole time.I'd like to suggest to you to remind him it's a disease. And it's not one size fits all as far as what may work.

There's no cure. There is hope, but no cure.I say this,I've been going thru this for quite awhile and my husband's seen me at my worst. He gets frustrated and says some things like what your fiance said.

As much as they know,as much as they "learn" they don't go thru it.On the outside we look fine.Oh,we may look tired,or mad,or sad.I may say something with a sharp tone because of the pain, which is constant and he knows it.

And like you said, you hold it in because you don't want to ruin the time.

I wish you well. This disease is a theif. It robs us of so many parts of our life. And it's not fair that on top of that,we do so much to try to hide it.

  Here's to hope.
