LP was normal, CDH's and migraines continue

By PinkPatty Tuesday, November 24, 2009

I had my LP last week and my pressure was 12.5.  This was within normal range so the doctor took off a little CSF to send out for testing and it was over.  I had to lay flat for 30 minutes at Jefferson and then go home and lay flat for the rest of the day.  I went to work the next day and got a terrible headache - took Relpax but it didn't help.  Went to bed that night and on Friday I went to work and got another terrible headache, this particular headache gets much worse when I bend over or sneeze or cough - which is not the case with the normal migraines I usually get or my CDH.

Called the doctor Friday and they said I needed to lay flat 24/7 each day until the headache leaves.  As of today, Tuesday, I still get a headache when I am up walking to get food or use the rest room.  I'm still on bed rest.

I'm really hoping this will go away, heal, and get better.  Especially with Thanksgiving in just 2 days.

I was watching Dr. Krusz on youtube and he mentioned endocrine problems causing headaches.  I have central hypothyroidism and take levoxyl, I wonder if by chance this could be causing my headaches?  I've been on it for years and have had CDH for 7 years now so it makes me wonder.  I wonder if I should try going off of it to see my headaches would get better?  I also have low growth hormone production, but am not going to give myself shots for it so I've just lived with it.  Could this cause the headaches?  I know my pituitary hasn't been functioning properly, I've had that checked also, possibly another cause for headaches?

I just turned 50 and would so much like to find something that I can do to stop from having a headache each and every day.

Any thoughts??  Anyone have a problem with any of these?

I've had botox, infusions, tried countless medications - all with no relief.

Glad to hear your LP was ok, but sorry to hear about your head pain. Keep looking, I'm sure there will be an answer.

Hi pink,

I know it is Sunday evening, but I am wondering how you are feeling and what the doctors have done for you?

DO let us know, ok?

Hi Patty,

I'm so sorry about your LP headache. Hang in there. Has your doctor offered to do a "blood patch"? This is a procedure in which they draw blood from you, then inject it into the LP site where it clots and stops the spinal fluid from leaking. This procedure can stop the headache or certainly make it more tolerable.

I had a terrible post-LP headache after my LP that was helped considerably by a blood patch. Still, the headache and nausea continued for 12 days and was only totally relieved when I lay flat on my back and didn't move! My doctor told me he'd done hundreds of LPs and blood patches and I had the most severe post-LP response he'd personally seen--though he'd certainly read about such cases before.

I don't write this to get you down, but just so you know what you are going through may not be typical, but it does happen. And it will gradually get better.
