If menopause and/or migraines aren't insulting enough, to get them together just is not right!! I too suffer from an increase in migraines since menopause has started and it's not been a good time. I'll be brief since I have found that as usual ever one is different in how they react to medication and only you and your doctor, yes perferable a migraine specialist, can work it out.
1. I'm on 100 mg topamax a bedtime. I get migraines other than with my period and it's helping those significantly. I still have to avoid major tiggers, but I'm getting there.
2. I cannot take hormones. It does help some, I'm not one of them, makes the migraines worse.
3. Frova x 7 days at the onset of my period. The migraines were continous otherwise. I believe this may soon be an approved usage for Frova. My neurologist at the time particiated in a study on it. My periods have stopped so I have not had to be taking this for about 5 months.
I had to change neurologist due to my insurance. I am extremely lucky that I feel I am still getting very good and compasionate care from the new provider.
Hope this is of some help. The help came from a neurlogist, not a gyn. HA diary was an essential tool keeping track on periods on it also.
