My kids are sick almost everyday

By BandAsMom Thursday, December 20, 2007

Both of my boys, age 11 and 15 have been suffering for years. They are sick most days, in varying degrees, including weekends. They had been diagnosed with IBS. That didn't explain the headache. They were diagnosed with migraines a few months ago, but that didn't seem to explain the severe stomach pain. I've just found your site, and I am thinking the "Abdominal Migraine" is what they are suffering from. Any more advice, other parents with kids who suffer from this? We are really struggling. My 15 yr. old is now on home study, and my 11 yr. old has been struggling with school. I have been threatened with legal action by a school and district that doesn't know how to, or will not attempt to, make accomodations for my younger son.

Dad has (A-Typical) migraines, generally his site is affected. I thought I had been suffering from sinus headaches for years, now I believe they are migraines. My family history is mom and maternal grandmother with severe migraines. Evidentally, our poor kids didn't stand much of a chance of avoiding migraine.

I feel so bad for my kids, and all of you/us sufferers! I wish I could send out a big "group hug."

I am really thankful for this site.

I will appreciate any/all advice, further information, etc.

By the way, I couldn't sign in to the forum.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Since current thinking that Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease, with your family background, I guess you are proof-positive.

I'm sorry to hear your boys are suffering so. You certainly have a lot to deal right now. Let's see if we can give you some information to help you out.

My first thought is the best thing may be to see a pedicatric Migraine specialist. Of course these experts are few and far between, but it is crucial that your boys get the right diagnosis and their lives back. This LINK will provide you with patient recommended Migraine specialists and pedicatric specialists. You may have to travel a bit, but it will be well worth it to have your son's feeling better and their lives back on track. Where are you located?

HealthCentral also has a channel on IBD you may find helpful. Click HERE for that link.

Abdominal Migraine - The Basics, usually starts in children but can happen anytime.

Anatomy of a Migraine is also a good article that discusses the four phases of a Migraine attack.

are they diabetics? what is the degree of IBS? they weren't dehydrated? IBS can cause dehydration which can lead to migraines (freq.)

My suggestion is to have food allergy testing done, screen for autoimmune diseases, and have routine lab work done. the best diagnosis can be made through routine lab work. if you are finding that you are Not getting a diagnosis, you are seeing the wrong physician.
