Hi all,
I have posted before that I have a daughter age 12 that has headaches and severe migraines on a daily basis which have been going on 3 yrs now. So I have been trying to find a doctor that would help. Well we went to one clinic that claimed to be specialist in migraines. When we got there we meet with the psychologist, She then talked to my daughter alone and then with me alone.
Then it was the neurologist turn when she entered she sat down and told my daughter that she was going to get really bad before she was going to be better. She never even examined my daughter. She was just firm and acted like my husband and I were not taking care of her correctly. What did she think I have only gone to every doctor and had her scanned, poked, and prodded by so many and then traveled 2 hours to this place. Wow I was so hurt. The doctor told me that my daughter needed to go to a "facility" that would give her structure and manager her meds. That my daughter was to bonded to me and we need to break this. well what do you want her to do when she suffers everyday from headaches or a migraine. Of course she was going to want her mom. Plus two yrs ago she almost lost me to cancer. so she is very close to me.
Well when I got out to the car and look at the paperwork. The facility was a mental institute. Wow like that is going to help her pain being pulled away from her family. Lets give her more stress. I just think it is a shame that in two hrs a person "doctor" thinks they can make a drastic change like that without really knowing the family.
When I got home I called my doctors and her therapist and they all said that is not right and would hurt her more. Plus that her headaches/migraines is not all psychological but there is physical as well.
My things is be careful where you go and talk to all parties related to you or your child before just trusting a doctor.
Now we are back to square one with still no relieve. I wish I could take them from her and give them to me so that she could be a normal kid.
thanks for reading

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!
Oh for goodness sake, now I have heard it all....Let me take care of some business first then we will get to the bottom of this ok?
While it is not uncommon for Migraine specialists to have psychologists exam new patients to see what coping skills they are equipped with, among other things. Not to place a Migraineur in a mental institute. And true, your daughter may feel worse before she feels better, but goodness, what is this about needed to break a "bond" with all you've been through...I don't get it. You poor thing.
Seriously. A mental institute. Now that just takes the cake. Migraine is a disease....not a mental condition.
So, let's get your daughter to a real Migraine facility. I've recently been told that The Michigan Head Pain & Neurological Institute, has one of the best adolescent Migraine treatment centers. That is one idea. Be assured, Migraine is a genetic neurological disease thought to be caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics......
