Fed up of the pain :-(

I'm so sorry for what you are going through.  I don't have hemiplegic migraines, so I can't share a specific positive experience with them, but I can tell you that quality of life can be improved for nearly everyone with migraines.

Please take a look at the Success Stories folder over on the discussion forum.  In particular, I recommend a thread called "Is it ending??"  While you are over on the forum, I hope you will register for it for further information and support.  We have some other members with hemiplegic migraines, who would be happy to share their experiences with you.  You can also get to the forum by clicking on Migraine Forums under the orange Manage bar.  Registration for the forums is separate from the registration for this page, but of course, you can use the same information to register.

When you have hemiplegic migraines, it's especially important to see a migraine specialist.  Click on the blue words for a list of specialists maintained on this site.

Being in chronic pain every day is an absolutley exhausting and scary experience. Is this your first time with extreme head pain or have you had Migraines before?

Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease that has flare-ups, or Migraine attack itself. A headache can be one part of a Migraine attack. There are actually four phases to a Migraine. Each person experiences a Migraine differently. For example, I do not get the aura phase of a Migraine. However, my brother has had these. Familial Hemiplegic Migraine (FHM) and Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine (SHM) are two rare variations of Migraine disease. FHM and SHM can be hard to diagnose because some of the symptoms are similar to other  conditions. It is imperative to have a complete medical evaluation to confirm either FHM or SHM. True motor weakness during Migraine with aura is one key way to diagnose HM. There is also some new genetic testing that can be done. If diagnosed with HM, it is crucial to see a Migraine specialist. There are some drugs that are contraindicated in the use of HM, and makes it important to see an expert in Migraine disease and headache disorders.
