Finally gone of chronic daily migraine... will regular migraine go away forever?

By HanniganReilly Thursday, February 21, 2008

Well, I am now 33. When my daughter was 2 (She is now 5). I started seeing waves in my vision at work. I went to an optimistrist that said that I had dry eyes. At the time, I was on Naproxen Sodium for torn knees, pending surgeries. After my surgery was complete, not 5 months later I started to have the waves again but this time with horrible headaches. Soon after, I was diagnosed with migraine.

I have not officially found a food/scent trigger, though I am debating I may have one. I noticed my migraines around my cycle and as the months went by they seem to get worse with cycle, when under stress, and with weather changes. I dealt with them, and was under probation at 2 jobs for time missed. I was on increase of Topamax up to 600 mg. The current doctor I was seeing at the time had no bedside manner, finally told me to take replax which knocked me out, then imitrex which did not seem to work.

Now when my daughter was turning 4 that October (2006), I had a migraine that never went away. I was diagnosed with Migraine Status.. not sure of the right term. I went on short term disability at work and tried to go in many a time. My doctor told me there is nothing more he could do for me and that I need to go to an IV therapist neurologist. He told me to try the Jefferson Headache Center, it was in the city.. I am in the burbs.

I did it. I went to the ER a few times, then went to Jeffersons ER, it sped up my appointment for the headache center.

They had me on infusion therapy. Not even sure what I had, other than they were introducing me to DHE, since I could not keep meds down and the pain was so severe.

I left and each day they seemed weaker, maybe 4 out of 10 instead of 7-8 out of ten. It finally did pass on it's own. I then on the weekend of Daughters party, sometime around her birthday of Dec 4 2006, could not keep my eyes open, could not walk around without glasses, was popping naproxen and compazine with the replax. I was too scared to inject myself. I was exhausted and then created fights with my then husband. It finally went away and I had a few minor headaches. I was officially off the topamax and started Pamelar.

I am now on Pamelar 50 mg, gaining weight though not sure why; starting zonegran? and Amerge. The frova seems to be failing during migraine menstral.

Has anyone had amerge and Zonegran? Not sure of the spellings...

I do have to highly recommend the headache center. They listen, they help. It won't happen overnight and I got a little worse, but now I can actually carry a job, attend to my daughter, and go out with friends.

I suffered severe anxiety going anywhere for fear of migraine.

I finally feel alive!

Though I still get a small minor migraine about 1-2 times biweekly and then the cycle ones, I am under control!

I also have to say that I went on Seasonique. I am not sure if the cause of the decrease of migraine is related to the higher hormone, or if it's due to less cycle. I went on other pills and was on Ortho Tri-cylcen... even not skipping a pack and they did not work.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

You are in great hands at the Jefferson Headache Center. It can take time to see a reduction in Migraine frequency, which can be frustrating.

I have taken both Zonegran and Amerge. Amerge, an abortive, didn't work well for me so I now take Axert. Zonegran worked for a bit, but my doctor and I deceided to switch to another medication becasue it seemed to be losing it effectiveness. It did however, work for a while. I know we have quite a few members here who take Zonegran and have good results with it.

Migraine is thought to be a genetic neurologic disease. Have you kept a Migraine diary to see if food or non-food triggers will bring on a Migraine? You can download that HERE.
