Six migraines

By Winnie Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Well, so much for acupuncture. I had an appointment on Oct 18, but the doctor said I could cancel it if I did not get a migraine. So, I canceled it on the morning of Oct 18. On the afternoons of Oct 19 and 20, I had migraines. It was at the end of my period, which was a normal time to experience them, so I thought that the hormones were too strong to fight. That weekend, my integrity as a skipper was questioned in the sailing community, which sent me into an emotional crying bout. It was a vicious rumor that was quickly squelched by Tuesday Oct 23, but it upset me greatly. On the morning of Oct 24 while driving to work at 70 mph, I was hit with one of the worst migraines I can remember. It was tough driving home, and my neighbor had to help me into the house. I kept my sunglasses on for an hour after taking Imitrex. The pain was gone after that, but the nausea held on all day. I figured the intense emotions and crying helped trigger that one - perhaps accupunture could not overcome that, either. Then on Monday Oct 29 I got another migraine while driving to work, this time only a block from home. It wasn't too bad and I went to work at 1:00 after an Imitrex fix. I have no idea what could have triggered that one. I got two more this weekend on Nov 18 and 19. Again, it was after my period ended and I am getting an endoscopy this morning that I am nervous about.

I am thinking about trying accupunture again. Perhaps three treatments was not enough. The cost and time involved are difficult, as is the pain of allowing someone to stick needles in me and twist them. I'm still doing yoga and massage therapy as they are good for me for many other reasons. I'll have to think about my next course of action.

Getting along well...
