Hot Flashes with Migraines

By puffin902 Wednesday, May 14, 2008

I have been dealing with night sweats and hot flashes for several years now.  I'm 45 but perimenopause has been an issue for a while.  Lately, it seems like I never get a migraine without also having hot flashes.  I don't have much idea of my cycles.  I had uterine ablation done in November so I no longer experience periods but the hormones are still fluctuating.  Since I was having periods as often as every 19 days, who knows what I'm doing now!

Do other menopausal/perimenpausal women also notice a link between hot flashes and their migraines?

Hot flashes can be a symptom during the headache phase of a Migraine attack.  Migraines can also change over time, bringing with it new symptoms. New and different symptoms should always be mentioned to your doctor.

I have never experienced migraines before this year, and last week at the onset of a bout of hot flashes (which I had suffered last year for a month or so but had stopped on their own), I had two migraines in three days.  It is pretty clear to me that they are related.  Not clear as to how to avoid them both in the future. I'm 46.
