I started out just going to the eye md for check up--next thing I am having a MRI because I was told I have swollen optic nerves (papilledema) the MRI was normal and next I am getting a lumbar puncture with opening pressure of 22 which on doc says ok but went to neurology md and he sends me for a MRV?? and a bunch of lab work and says he will get with eye doc to discuss problems?? says it is not sure in I have PTC or not??? I do have occasional headaches but I feel they are stress and tension related--anyone have any in put? and if anyone know what is the normal LP opening pressure?
thanks, Kiele

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!
I can't help you with a diagnosis, only a doctor can do that. Besides, you wouldn't want that done online anyway. We can help you with information and support, how does that sound?
Pseudotumor Cerebri (PTC), or Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a condition where our bodies either produce too much cerebriospinal fluid or don't absorb it properly. Papilledema (swollen optic nerves,) intractable headache (not relieved by medication) ringing in the ears, and vision loss are just a few symptoms of this condition. This article may be helpful: Pseudotumor Cerebri (IIH) - The Basics.
Usually people who are symptmatic and have papilledema get diagosed and treated. An LP reading of 22 with papilledema seems pretty clear to me, but then again I am not a medical professional. A Normal reading is 20 or under. Some doctors say for fat patients (myself included) 22 is the starting low point. Here is where is gets tricky - 22 for me may not be ok for you. In fact, I have IIH and don't feel well when my pressure creeps up towards 20. Other people feel fine until their pressure is over 30.
So, if you are not getting the answers you need, and/or are not feeling well, please get another opinion. A Migraine specialist may be the doctor to see. He is the expert treating patients with headache disorders, like PTC and Migraine disease. Or a neuro-ophthmalogist. We have a list of patient recommended specialists you can see HERE.
