WHen I last wrote I was anticipating my visit with a neurologist/ headache Dr. and my husband and family were having a hard time understanding what I go through. I will make the rest of the story quick.... My new Dr. talked to me for about 30 minutes and decided I had "classic migraines" and asked me to try samples of 2 new medicines (for me) REPLAX and FROVA. I told him that I tried immitrex before and hated the tightness in my chest, and throat and the awful way it made me feel before it made me feel better. He said these new drugs would be a lot better in that respect.
I tried both drugs, didn't like replax but had some luck with Frova. It did manage to knock out 2 of my headaches and I was able to function and feel as crappy as the immetrex. Best of all, when the pain finally went away, I had a nice feeling of well being. Immitrex takes away the pain but the side effects just make my body feel terrible.
I called the doctor to share the good news and ask for a prescription. Then, when I went to pick it up, imagine my surprise when the Pharmacist handed me immetrex and said my insurance would not cover Frova as it was not a "preferred medicine." He said my Dr. changed the prescription to immetrex. I WAS SO Ticked! I had to take the immetrex for lack of a better option with my current headache. YUK! With school starting up I haven't had the time to fight this battle yet. To make matters worse my husband is furious that I still haven't gotten this figured out. They still don't get it! The Doctor didn't listen, my husband (who was supposed to go to the appt. and backed out) doesn't get it!
Any suggestions how to fight the "non preferred medicine" farce?
