I have been seeing a neurologist who specializes in headaches for going on 3 years now. We have tried more med combinations that I even care to remember. None of which had much benefit. Curently I am on propranolol, prozac,zanaflex and zomig. I continue to have daily mild to moderate headaches and migraines 5-7 times per month. I have also tried relaxtion therapy, massage therapy and facet injections...no help...although the massage felt wonderful. My Doc tells me we are out of med options and wants to try Botox injections. They are not FDA approved for migraine treatments (but have shown promise). Since they are not approved insurance will not pay for them and they are expensive. I am willing to try anything but money is tight since I am unable to work at this time. Has anyone ever tried Botox injections for migs and if so did they help?
Thanks,
Anita

Hi, Anita;
YES,YES, AND YES! I highly recommend it, it gives me 8-10 weeks free of migraines, and only a few minor headaches during that time. My insurance finally authorized payment for one session, this after one year of efforts to "prove at least 3 other alternative meds failed". You are welcome to read my profile for more details.
It is expensive, matter of fact I still am paying off a loan for the most recent session (I had one other prior). You are very fortunate to have such a forward thinking physician! Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the reply! I will be calling the doc first thing this morning! See if he can light a fire under the insurance company's backside! Especially since I woke up at 5 this morning with the beginnings of yet another migraine. Oh happy day! On the up side...if you can call it that...there will be no physical therapy today...lol!
Thanks again!
Anita
Good luck Anita! I don't know much about the botox other than what I read on the site, but it looks like some docs inject in the back of the neck. Mine were in the forehead, along the frown line wrinkles and "oh what a surprise" wrinkles. Let me know how it goes please. My next session is in two weeks, which I am eagerly awaiting!
