My First post

By JimFallRiver Tuesday, April 08, 2008

I really don't know what to say here. I guess if your reading this you have read the about me and gotten an idea about my migraines. Today the migraines are pretty bad I took 2- 5 MG Vicodin but even they don't seem to do much, So I don't think I will be taking them any more. I see my Dr. on the 15th and will ask him about Midrin but I don't think my insurance will cover it. My average headache when I wake up is a #3 or #4 that doesn't sound to bad but when you get them every day and they get worse over the course of the day, It's not good. I'm in bed by 7 or 8 PM every night because I just cant stand myself by that time. I also have insomnia and I'm taking 3 MG Lunesta and 150 MG of Trazodone and it still takes me about 4 hours to fall asleep and I keep waking on and off all night long. The Dr thinks that could be a part of the reason I'm getting the migraines but I have had trouble sleeping sense I was a teen. With the migraines came depression and I'm taking a couple drugs for that. So I take 12 drugs not counting abortive's of supplements, Mostly at night before bed (16 pills at bed). As far as I knew no one else was having problems as bad as I was until I started reading the forums on this site and I see some people are far worse than I. But I have read some encouraging story's that give me hope that one day I to will be headache free.

If this post is in the wrong place or is inappropriate in any way, or you have any suggestions or comments please feel free to let me know.

Thanks reading this...

Hi, Jim!

You're posting in a good spot. You also can blog here, if you like. But come to the Forums, too. You've read our stories and seen how we support each other. We have a couple of guys who post, so you won't be alone. And there's more traffic there.

I took trazadone for several years. Now I'm taking Ambien 5 mg and Moban 40 mg for sleep. And practicing "good sleep hygeine" helps -- going to bed and waking up at the same times, even on the the weekends. I can't do the "don't use the bedroom for anything for anywhere other than sex and sleep" thing. My sewing space is in our bedroom. But I do try to skip naps.

Glad to meet you!

I took Lunesta and the first day, after the first night of taking it, I got a huge Migraine. I thought bad headache, as I had never had a migraine before. The headaches continued and were lasting all day. OTC meds didn't touch it. I finally discovered it was migraines and started suspecting the Lunesta. I quit the Lunesta and the migraines were gone within 2 days. I have since found that many others get severe migraines from Lunesta. You may be someone who has to live with migraines, but I really believe that Lunesta is probably making them worse. There are other sleeping solutions out there.

Mary Lee,

Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease. It's highly unlikely that any medication would suddenly TRIGGER a Migraine when you'd never had one before. Were you actually dianosed by a physician with Migraine disease?

No Teri, I wasn't. I had never felt that kind of pain before. After taking the Lunesta the very first day I had debilitating headaches that lasted all day and the only relief I could find was to curl up in my bed in a dark silent room. OTC pain medicine did not help at all. I finally found an OTC Migraine Medicine that made it bearable, but barely. It did not get rid of the pain, but made it where I could leave my room without crying. They started the day after I began the Lunesta and stopped as soon as I stopped the Lunesta. I dealt with these headaches for almost 2 weeks before stopping the Lunesta, at which time the pain stopped.

Severe Migraines are a possible side effect of Lunesta. This according to my doctor and their own literature. There was also a forum that had hundreds of people post about getting debilitating migraines when using Lunesta. Considering this is a possible side effect of this medication, I think someone already experiencing migraines would take it into consideration. It is very possible that the Lunesta itself could be making Jim's migraines worse.

Mary Lee,

Thanks for such a quick reply. I really appreciate it.

Yes, I take Lunesta occasionally myself and have the prescribing info here. You're quite right that "frequent Migraine" is one potential side effect of Lunesta AND that Jim should consider this.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. I was concerned that if you have Migraine disease, you be diagnosed so you can take care of yourself.

Thanks again,

Teri

Thank you for the concern Teri. Since the headaches stopped with the Lunesta cessation and I am 45, I am hopeful that it was just the Lunesta side effect. If I ever start getting them again, then I will have them checked out.
