Weather- nature's migraine curse

By Jamie Saturday, May 24, 2008

I can control for all of my other triggers. Simple as that. Don't eat onions, only have a small amount of ice cream, no swimming in chlorinated pools, and it's the road to health.

Now add t-storm.

Poof- migraine.

THe good news is that I'm getting by some weather nowadays, a lot of the weather is a killer for me. I'm not getting Horribly painful (ie 7/10 + ) migraines anymore- and the nausea is there still- but not that bad... I've only thrown up from one migraine- a Big improvement.

The bad news is that I have a mild migraine right now- today is day 2. Uggh. But it's mild- like a 1 or maybe a 2 at the worst- so it's more of the nuisance than anything else.

Ok. That's all I have to say. Things are all changing as far as job and things like that, so I understand the increased need to take care of myself and get this little migraine under control so that it doesn't flair into something that turns into status migraineous. (NO!!!)

UndecidedI really hate being tossed around by the weather.  Rain, wind, change of weather just is not controlable.  Add high level pollen (hayfever in the eyes and face) and then I am up against status migraine and/or status aura for months.

Steroids bring me out eventually.  Thank God.  This is not such a beneign disease after all.

I just feel that this is Sooooo unfair.  But then again, I could have some other worst disease. Lots of people do.

Pain management and prayer and steroids.

WOW.

How often are you using steroids? They should be an emergency med, not a regular rescue medication. If steroids are overused, they can lead to bone problems and other no-fun things like that.

Steroids only about 1 - 2 X year for status migraine or status aura, usually during peak hayfever season.  Thanks for asking.

I too have suffered for several days with a mild migraine and finally it rained...then it got relieved for a bit. It is hard to try to figure out how to control the migraine without taking your drugs and making yourself tired, sleepy and non-sociable. Maintaining a good balanced diet, watching what you eat and keeping yourself as stress free as possible are things we can control (to a point) but man when the weather is changing and the barometer goes into the left field (my thoughts) here come s the pain and the agony of dealing with it and possibly cancelling plans cuz of it. Frown

Thanks for the encouragment.  I think that we all do the best that we can around weather triggers. We are not the Goddess, so somethings we can try to fix. And other migraines we just treat and try to control.

I'm right there with you.  I avoid known triggers like the plague.  I closed the windows already and turned on the AC because the fragrance from all the flowers around us and the smell of cut grass is a trigger.

But the weather?? Nothing I can do about it except pray.  By yesterday evening it was so bad I was staggering, and after Bible study, when my hubby took me to the store to get some things for the nausea, I think I scared the poor cahier.  She thought I was going to collapse right in front of her.

I'm still suffering today, and the Doctor is booked.  So hopefully they will call in something.
