One day in October

By Jamie Tuesday, October 07, 2008

I feel good today- you didn't notice.

I had a spring to my step- all mine. All smiles

All "thank yous" and "have a nice day"

All clearheaded and will it stay

I'm not talking about you as you-my reader.

Just you who saw me walking around feeling human

And had no idea that all though I was in a hospital briefly

I was feeling like I was playing a game

Where I was winning.

I stopped at the piano and almost spent time with the baby grand

But the parking fees were adding up, and an hour's worth of change was all I had at hand.

But I'll be back some other day.

And then the nausea returned,

You wouldn't have noticed- you who don't know me

For the brainfoggy girl looked like she was back

But not for good.

She's waiting in my bed, she is. She's in my backpack, full of meds,

Or on my couch- where I feel like I've lived.

But I don't care.

Look at me... just look at me smile.

I'll deal with her in a while.

My letter to my formerly perfume-wearing mother!

Thanks, Nebula! I really appreciate the feedback, and thanks for the praise! Yesterday was totally great...

Isn't it funny how everyone can comment when you DON'T feel well? It's all "you look horrible", "can't they do anything for you?", but then when you are not in pain, which, let's face it, is like one day out of a month!, no one seems to notice.

I'm glad you got a few hours of Jamie back! I know how exciting it is to actually feel good for a change! I think I've had one day the last month.

I really liked your poem. It really describes how we feel perfectly. Laughing

For starters, you, my friend, are SO due for your DAYS of Eileen back! Laughing

The difference between yesterday and today is like night and day for me.

Of course it's like-- no one notices when you're feeling good- it's like what's up with that? And at a hospital even? Where people are used to seeing folks dragging around? To see a smiley face? I don't get it.

I have errands to do today, and I'm dragging. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow, I'll have my "next day in october."

Thanks for the comments!
