Hi to Everyone,
I have been having what I call "dizziness" for twelve years now. I have constant dizziness with what I call "flare ups" in the intensity. My flare ups are caused by certain smells that I come in contact with such as cut grass, weeds, all perfumes, sented candles, housedust, ashes, smoke from outdoor fires..... The allergists tell me that I do not have any allergies to these odors. All my allergy tests are negative. The ENTs tell me that I do not have any problem in my inner ears. The neurologist tells me that what I have is a "central nervous system" problem, but it can not be determined at this time exactly what it is. Everyone seems to agree that the only thing I have available to me is to try tricyclical antidepressants. For some reason, these medications can sometimes decrease dizziness.
The neurologist says that it is now known that there is a group of patients who suffer with dizziness who are diagnosed as having a problem much like migraine patients have. These patients report many of the same odors that maigraine patients report as causing mirgraine episodes. However, he said he does not think that I am one of those patients. So, after all the testing that has been done, I still have no diagnosis.
I am wondering if any of you may have any info on my type of problem. It has been completely life altering for me. I must be hypervigilent all day long in order to not flare up my dizziness. This problem has greatly affected my cognitive abilities...spelling, math, driving, and verbal skills such as speaking, understanding others and having others understand me......
I will greatly appreciate any input you might have for me.
Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you are having such problems but it would be impossible for us to tell you what is going on with your dizziness.
I wonder if you have ever been to an ENT and been checked out for Meniere's disease? I don't know much about it other than there is a lot of dizziness with it. Just a thought.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Thanks for your input, Nancy !
I have now had all the testing done....including ENT inner ear. Everything has come back as being within normal range. So, I don't know what to think.
Thank you.
