FRUSTRATION!!!!!

By stacy Tuesday, January 22, 2008

I ,like many have been doctoring for migraines for many years without improvement. I, once hospitalized and "detoxed" off of my ferricet, etc., did get a bit better in the fact my pain levels didn't reach as high. BUT..ONE year later i still get 10  and 17 day runs of migraines. PLUS,, the pain levels are starting to increase again!!! I will have 5 and maybe 8 days off then i will start all over. Its funny though, the pain level increases as the days of the migraine. Weird huh?? Some days are an exception of course but...thats how I've been tracking it. I go to the best of the best doctors...and I still have NO LIFE!! Is this how its going to be? He just upped my dosage of meds last week. So i suppose we shall see if this will help. I have been on so many medicines i have lost faith in them. I just don't know how people funtion as far as doing JOBS etc. with this kind of pain. i just can not do it. People in my world look down on me and i have a real hard time emotionally. How do you people manage?

Stacy,

I'm so sorry it's going so badly for you now with migraines.  As my doctor remind me on Friday, there is no exact science to get the medications right.  It is trial and error.  How do I keep going?  Faith, prayer, looking at my children, and I refuse to to it win!!  While people think I 'm not competive, I guess I've saved the competion for dealing with migraines.  It is not easy at times to continue to function when I would rather be laying down in a dark quiet room.  But sometimes I just have to keep moving.

The people here on this website are the best.  You can find amazing help and support.  Get to know them and you will have a support system of people who understand what you are going through, even though you have never met them.

Take care and remember we are here for you.

Stacy,

I am so sorry for what you are going through.  I guess that I'm lucky in a way.  Both my mom and her sister had horrible migraines - I remember the day that the Imitrex injections came out and I couldn't imagine EVER giving myself a shot.

Move forward 15-20 years and I've been getting daily transformed migraine for about 4 years now.  I had a great example in my mother as to how to deal with it.  I figured if she could hold down a job and raise 2 kids on her own, then the least I could do was get up and go to work almost every day.  Also, my migraines are almost never so bad that I can't work.  I'll push myself to make it through the work day and when I get home, I just collapse and can no longer move.  Luckily, my husband is very understanding and is more than willing to take care of housework.

I think it's okay to want to give up every now and then - it seems natural.  Just know that everyone on this site is here for you.  I'm 26 and have been to at least 8 different doctors about my headaches/migraine over the last decade or so.  I've finally gotten to the point where I think I'm making some progress.  I had a doctor that was convince that Topamax was my solution and every time I went in and said I had no improvement, she just said, "Okay, let's up it then."  I believe that there's a certain dosage and a certain combination of meds that will work for everyone, but going in for 3 years only to have your same meds increase IS frustrating.  I hope that you hang in there and hopefully find a new doctor or get this one to see that mabye this plan just isn't for you.  I can almost guarantee you that there is plan out there that will work for you!

tell me something ..do you take meds when you get a migraine to go to work or stay at work? or the level of pain isn't that high.? That is how I got into trouble with my meds. was trying to stay at work or go to work.

But never realizing what i was doing to myself or how i was actually making my migraines worse.

Hi Stacy!

I'm so sorry to hear things are so tough for you right now!  Please know that I am thinking of you and sending out lots of hugs and positive thoughts for you!Heart

How do we manage with chronic migraine disease?  We do the best we can!  We just keep putting one foot in front of the other.  We try not to think about what tomorrow will be like (unless we can smile and tell ourselves tomorrow will be GREAT!).  We keep going because our families need us.  Our friends need us.  And we deserve to have long, happy lives!

Some days, we just go through the motions.  We do things because they need to be done.  And then, as Pamela said, we collapse at the end of the day.

Other days, we are pleasantly surprised by feeling very well!  We take advantage of those days, spending happy times with others and smiling the whole day through!!

I think people who suffer from chronic migraine or headache appreciate the pain-free days SO MUCH MORE than most people!  When we are pain free, we want to enjoy every minute, every second!  We live those days with so much joy!

So try not to pay attention if you feel like others are looking down on you.  You really can't concern youself with people like that...they don't know what you are going through!

Try to focus on YOU.  You have to keep working and fighting to find the right treatment combination to give you as many good days as possible.  You have to take good care of yourself, eat healthy food, and get enough rest.  Trying new medications and dosages is unfortunately a long process!  You have to be in the best shape possible to try new things!  And have faith...There is something out there that will give you better management of your migraines!

I appreciate all that you said! and understand it. I think I am a bit negative cause i just had my appt. and i wanted it to go better and all he did was up my meds.! I look forward to those appts. so much. Like the cure is coming!!!! lol who knows maybe it has! right?! I just find it hard to be positive when I'm in pain. And of course we don't want to take too many drugs!!! or I'll be right back where I started. He only gives me anaprox for the pain! I have back ups BUT only if I'm really bad.
