It is possible to live a life with daily migraines.  It helps me incredibly to have faith in God.   Sometimes this faith waivers as the pain increases, but I always manage to come out on the other side.  My pain was much worse when I lived in Oregon last year, but for some reason my move to Colorado has helped me.  I have two wonderful son (19 & 16) that love me and take such wonderful care of me.  I used to feel guilty about what I was putting them through, but now I realize that I my situation has turned them into caring, compassionate young men that know that life isn't perfect and you take the good with the bad.  I am anxious to hear from people with similar problems.  Take care and God bless!

Hello, Jan, I'm glad you found us.  I had a relatively brief time of dealing with daily migraines, but it was long enough to know how difficult it is.  I still have migraines more often than I would like.

Is your doctor working with you to decrease your frequency?  If you are not seeing a migraine/headache specialist, it may be time to seek one out.  Unfortunately, I'm not clever enough to get the link into this post, but there is a list of migraine/headache specialists on this site.  Even if you have to travel further than you would like to get to one, you should consider seeing a specialist who will work to decrease the frequency of your migraines.

Many people who have daily migraines are having Medication Overuse Headaches.  Again, there is info about that problem on this site.  I'd also suggest you locate the list of preventive meds on this site.  Some of our members print that list and take it with them to the doctor.  There are things that can be done to improve your quality of life.

Those of us who use this site truly understand migraine pain.  I hope you will join us on the discussion forum.  To get there, click on Migraine Forums under the orange Manage bar.  Registration for the forums is separate from the registration for this site, but of course, you can use the same info.  You would probably find the information and support on the forum very helpful, but I can tell you would have a lot to contribute, as well.  We'd love to have you.

Take care.  I wish you the best in your migraine management.

Thanks for the welcome!  I am really looking forward to utilizing this site and connecting with other migraineurs.  As I said in my bio, my headaches were so much worse last year in Oregon; not sure why the move to Colorado changed things.  I used to get two morphine injections per day plus several other meds just to stay at an "8" pain level.  The drs. gave me 5 years to live at the rate of taking that much meds, but there was nothing else they could do.  I had many hospital stays to no avail.  I even had open heart surgery to repair a hole in my heart that they thought might be causing the problem.  No luck.
I am now down to 2 shots of demeral per month.  I am taking oral morphine daily as well as fentanyl patches and I use morphine suppositories for breakthrough.  I have been on SO many preventative meds and all of the triptans.  I either had adverse reactions or no help.  I have done chiropractic, accupuncture, herbal, etc. etc.  Nothing seems to help.
I have had Kaiser insurance, so some of my options may have been limited.  Starting January 1 our insurance changes and I have an appt. with a Pain Managament Specialist who is a DO and deals with headaches.  I am hopeful that this will work out for me.

Again, thanks for the welcome and I will try to get to some of the forums.  I have been on this site for hours tonight and have found so many interesting things.

I'm glad you will be seeing another doctor and getting some fresh ideas.  I'm also glad your geographic move was such a help to you.  I guess there was some trigger in Oregan that isn't in Colorado.

Finding a preventive that works for you can be incredibly frustrating, and it sounds as though you've had your share of frustrations already.  Please don't give up, though.  It takes a lot of time, patience, and trial and error to find something that will work for you, but frequency CAN be reduced for nearly all migraineurs.

We will support you through this as best we can.  I will look forward to seeing you on the forum.

I am so glad you found this site - I just came across it last weekend after buying Teri's book and it has been a gift from God.

I have been experiencing migraine attacks since I was 4 and have had near-daily migraines (5 or more per week) for the last 4 years.  Mine started onced I graduated college and nothing has helped them.  After just one appointment with Dr. Krusz here in Dallas, I have been without an attack for 4 days.  Woot!

It is so hard to maintain your faith when you are in so much pain all of the time.  You ask, "why me" constantly and wonder why God doesn't answer your prayers.  Since I moved to Dallas 2 years ago, my whole church has been praying for me.  I've gone through Christian conselling programs designed to help relieve conflict, stress and other strongholds in your life.  Every time I come across something new for headaches, I thank God but every time, I end up disappointed.  But, I continue to pray and believe that there is a reason for all that I am going through.

My husband has been so supportive, although he gets very frustrated at times.  My mom, also a migraineur, and my brother are also terribly understanding and have helped me through so much.

I hope that you find help soon.  I know how hard it is to make it day to day sometimes.

Nancy,

Thank you for your reply to my post.  Your suggestions are very helpful. However I do want to point out that I tried to see the two drs. listed under Migraine Specialists in CO and they both refused to even let me make an appt. with them.  They said they did not deal with patients that were taking any form of narcotic medications.  Might be important to somehow check that out since many of us have been forced to go the narcotic route after completely exhausting all other options.

Thanks for your help,

Jan Harrington

I too constantly pray that I can "make it through the day" when I wake up with a migraine.  I also have two boys (11 & 13) and constantly feel guilty about the time I miss with them. I can remember my mother having migraines and how it made me feel when she was sick.  I feel so guilty because I have so few days when I don't have a headache.  God is the only thing that gets me through some days.  When people want to criticize because they don't understand...God is always there for me!
