I'm 30 and have been taking Midrin for 1 1/2 years. Should I worry about problems or change my medication. My insurance dosnt cover many migraine meds and imitrex and zomig cause me to itch. Does anyone know how long it's safe to take Midrin?

Before I answer, I need a bit more information ok? When you say 1 1/2 years how often during that time period do you take it? Once a month, every day, three times a week?

Since Imitrex and Zomig don't work for you  this doesn't necessarily mean the other triptans may not. These are abortive medications to be taken at the first sign of a Migraine attack. Axert, Amerge, Frova, Maxalt, Relpax, Treximet. We have a good article that talks about the differences between preventives, abortives and rescue medications - all are very confusing. Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference?

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
