Medications sometimes seem a slippery slope

By Chris Z Monday, November 29, 2010

My latest experience with a medication the doctor has put me on certainly seems to be a slippery slope.  This one, for sure, the cure is worse than the disease.

Last night I was scared because I was having a negative reaction to a medication my doctor has prescribed.  It was an oldie & for me, a badie.  My vision blurred, then doubled. My balance was off and I was forgetting how to do my job... that's fine when there's back-up in the office, but I was alone on 3rd shift.  It's NOT fine that the meds cause some memory impairment, when I'm already dealing with some more organic.

Fortunately I see the doctor in the morning & will let him know.  I took 1/2 dose yesterday and feel somewhat clearer.  It's good that there's only been  2 weeks between appointments.

While I HATE the methyl-prednisone infusion side-effects, they are no match for the aboveand last only one day.  Magnesium helps only for a couple of days, not for more long-term relief.  Still seems to be a "small" help.

Still awaiting botox approval/denial from the insurance.

May all beings be happy!

Chris

Do keep us posted, ok?

Nancy,

I put my foot down this morning and said I don't want to take any more anti-seizure meds.  The doc sheepishly relinquished, but still tried to get in "Topamax?"  I said no.  It didn't do any good.

He tried to play off that I had all the side-effects before I started taking the med I was on, and let him know I'd not had blurred or double-vision nor had I been stumbling as frequently & my memory has been improved for the past two years.
